    1. Southern Californians as well. Rain started this morning, and will continue to be cold and rainy through the weekend.

Of course, take that with a large grain of weather-is-never-actually-that-bad-here salt; highs will be 50-55, lows 40-45. Mudslides and flooding possible, and winter storm warnings for the mountains could be legit dangerous, but as long as that doesn't happen, it'll just be annoying.

  1. We missed that one here in north-central South Dakota, but it sounds like our turn is coming Friday and Saturday.

  2. We're heading to Omaha this year, so I volunteered to cover a court hearing in St. James this morning. Given the weather, we decided to drive there around 430 yesterday. Right as I'm crossing the Bloomington Ferry Bridge, I get a call that the hearing is off. We switched back to 35 and made it to Iowa before the snow started. We had sporadic bursts of white out snow mixed with some impressive lightning snow and some rain, but we got to Ames for the night. Now we'll take our time getting to Omaha today.

    1. Might as well get a Maid-Rite as you pass by Des Moines. Glad your traverse on 35 was uneventful. That’s a difficult road in severe winter weather.

      1. If one is traveling from Ames to Omaha on 35, one is best advised to get off at the Ankeny exit just north of the mixmaster and get some Tasty Tacos

          1. When we lived in Cedar Rapids, there was a small local chain called The Famous Dillburger. They had a decent loose meat sandwhich, but their pork tenderloin was out of this world. Twice as big as the bun, perfectly breaded and fried to a golden crisp. They went out of business years ago, but they are still the gold standard for pork tenderloins in my book.

      2. Used to go with the FIL to the Maid-Rite in A.L. Not sure it's still open.

But on the topic of loose beef, I need to put in a plug for the Gopher Bar on 7th St. in Lowertown, St. Paul. They feature a Coney Island with loose meat chili and a dog on a new england cut mustard-slathered bun. Schmidt beers on tap.

  3. Programming note: Curling's Canada cup is on ESPN3 and starts today with coverage beginning at 10. Schedule is the same for tomorrow if you want to avoid watching football.

      1. If you can access ESPN3, its available to stream. I'm not totally sure if there are other, more back channel ways though.

    1. Same (though ours was scheduled).

On my end, I drove to the office and texted my 9:00 meeting partners that I was “Walking over now - be a few minutes late.”

Response: “😳? I’m in pj’s in my [home] office sipping coffee.”

.... thanks for the email everyone.

      1. You should make all the decisions you want, and then when people question you, you can say "Well that was the consensus in the meeting."

      1. FanGraphs predicted 2/$20 million so he did well to get an additional year. Good on him. I don't think the Twins should have topped that offer but I wouldn't have been upset if they matched it.

          1. FWIW, DK, I've very much appreciated your contract predictions/off-season analysis here. I'm guessing you've put a good amount of time into thinking through these things, and it's been enjoyable to read (and see you be right, for that matter. It makes me feel good about choosing to rely on you!). Thanks!

          2. I think it's fully from the fans, so they all read your prediction and thought it was pretty good. Gibson's agent may have also seen it and started the negotiations at that.

    1. Good for him. I'd have been okay with him coming back, but I'm okay with him moving on, too. Hopefully the Twins will be spurred on to find someone better.

      1. An all-decade Twins team? Sounds like could be an interesting discussion point here. If interested, I can make a quick article about it. Look at Aaron's list, most of the players are obvious. I mean, what catcher are you honestly going to pick?

        1. Yep, would be a fun to see others’ lists and what direction they take them. I’d also enjoy seeing folks’ least-favorite or Bizarro World all-2010s Twins teams.

  4. How to start your travel day: lock your keys in your car with your luggage at the airport.

Next up: flying through STL on the way to MSP

Thank you, Swim's Towing for saving the day.

      1. My thought exactly. He even offered me a ride to the terminal and I made the gate before boarding.

Best (if stupidest) $125 plus $20 tip I will spend for a while. I also called the business to say thank you.

              1. This one is just a bar area selling lousy hot dogs. It is on the E concourse almost next to a Schlafly down near E6 (not Bootsy).

But the beer and company were good. I had a nice chat with a STL cop and with an active duty combat engineer.

      1. Price of success. Have to be able to replace coaches to make it sustainable. Fortunately, they kept both Levine and Falvey, the pitching coach and one of the two hitting coaches.

  5. Pre-Thanksgiving, I-finally-feel-recovered-from-food-poisoning supper: samosa chaat, chicken 65, lamb vindaloo, naan. Mrs. Hayes had same, except her entrée was lamb pasanda.

      1. I'm just glad the Wolves actually make second round picks instead of selling them like they used to.
