Minor Details: Games of July 16

Jose Miranda keeps hitting.  B. J. Boyd has a good game.  The Kernels are walked off for the third game in a row.  Bobby Milacki pitches well.

COLUMBUS 5, ST. PAUL 3 IN ST. PAUL

The Saints led 3-0 after four, but homers by Ryan Lavarnway and Connor Marabell tied it in the fifth and the Clippers scored two in the eighth to win it.

Batting stars:  Tomas Telis was 2-for-4.  Jose Miranda was 2-for-4.  Drew Maggi was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his ninth.

Pitching stars:  Josh Winder pitched 4.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks and striking out two.  Nick Vincent pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Yu Chang was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Owen Miller was 2-for-3.  Kevin Herget struck out seven in four shutout innings of relief, giving up one hit.

Good stats:  Miranda is batting .365.

Bad stats:  Vincent has an ERA of 5.79.  Ian Gibaut allowed two runs in three innings and has an ERA of 8.90.  Joe Harvey allowed a run in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 18.00.

Record:  The Saints are 31-32, in fourth place in the AAA East/Midwest, eight games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 7, TULSA 2 IN WICHITA

The Wind Surge scored four in the fifth to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead.

Batting stars:  B. J. Boyd was 3-for-4.  Andrew Bechtold was 1-for-4 with a home run, his eleventh.

Pitching stars:  Bryan Sammons struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.  Calvin Faucher pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and three walks and striking out two.  Zach Neff pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Michael Busch was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Andre Jackson struck out five in four innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.

Good stats:  Chris Williams was 1-for-3 and is batting .310.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 0-for-5 and is batting .307.  Neff has an ERA of 2.77.

Bad stats:  D. J. Burt was 0-for-3 and is batting .197.  Sammons has an ERA of 5.88.  Faucher has an ERA of 7.45.  Joe Kuzia pitched two-thirds of an inning without giving up a run and has an ERA of 30.38.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 36-28, in first place in the AA Central/North, 1.5 games ahead of Arkansas.

SOUTH BEND 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN SOUTH BEND (10 INNINGS)

Edouard Julien hit a two-run homer to tie it in the ninth, but Ryan Reynolds' RBI single ended it in the tenth.

Batting stars:  Michael Helman was 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs.  Julien was 1-for-5 with a two-run homer, his third.

Pitching star:  Zach Featherstone struck out three in 2.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Tyler Durna was 3-for-5.  D. J. Artis was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and three runs.  Matteo Bocchi struck out eight in four innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks,

Good stats:  Erik Manoah, Jr. gave up two unearned runs in two innings and has an ERA of zero.  Featherstone has an ERA of 2.97.

Bad stats:  Daniel Ozoria was 0-for-3 and is batting .180.  DaShawn Keirsey was 1-for-5 and is batting .185.

Record:  The Kernels are 35-29, in second place in the High-A Central/West, eight games behind Quad Cities.

JUPITER 9, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS

it was scoreless through four, but the Hammerheads scored two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three in the seventh.

Batting stars:  Jesus Feliz was 1-for-3 with a home run.  The Mighty Mussels had just two hits.

Pitching star:  Bobby Milacki pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and no walks and striking out four.

Opposition stars:  Jan Mercado was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Javeon Cody was 3-for-5 with five RBIs.  Yeremin Lara pitched five shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks and striking out four.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Justin Washington was 0-for-3 and is batting .184.  Aaron Sabato was 0-for-4 and is batting .191.  Bradley Hanner allowed six runs in 2.1 innings and has an ERA of 9.00.

Record:  The Mighty Mussels are 35-29, in third place in the Low-A Southeast/West, 9.5 games behind Tampa.

    1. It's not you. Maggi has seven homers in July. He hit four in consecutive games, July 1-4, and has hit three in the last six games. His career high in homers is 11 (10 at AAA, 1 in AA) in 2019. He's thirty-two, so he's not really a prospect, but he might be able to help as a short-term fill-in.
