Minor Details: Games of July 18

Tomas Telis delivers a game-winner.  A rough start for Austin Schulfer.  Edouard Julien hits a grand slam.  Zarion Sharpe does well after the first inning.

ST. PAUL 7, COLUMBUS 6 IN ST. PAUL (10 INNINGS)

The Saints trailed 6-2 after seven, but tied it with four in the eighth.  Tomas Telis delivered the game-winning single in the tenth.

Batting stars:  Jimmy Kerrigan was 2-for-4 with a home run (his ninth), a walk, and two runs.  Willians Astudillo was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second), a walk, and two runs.  Jake Cave was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Ian Hamilton struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Nick Vincent pitched two perfect innings and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Alex Call was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his fourth and fifth), a walk, and three RBIs.  Gabriel Arias was 3-for-5 with a double.  Brad Peacock struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

Starter:  Andrew Albers pitched five innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and no walks and striking out three.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 1-for-5 and is batting .342.  Hamilton has an ERA of 1.20.

Bad stats:  David Banuelos was 0-for-3 and is batting .171.  Keon Broxton was 1-for-4 and is batting .192.

Record:  The Saints are 33-32, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, 7.5 games behind Omaha.

TULSA 9, WICHITA 1 IN WICHITA

Leading 4-0, the Drillers scored five in the sixth to put it out of reach.

Batting star:  Chris Williams was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Joe Kuzia struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.  Ryan Mason pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Carlos Rincon was 3-for-3.  Clayton Daniel was 3-for-4 with two runs.  Gerardo Carrillo pitched six innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out five.

Starter:  Austin Schulfer pitched five innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks and striking out four.

Good stats:  Williams is batting .313.  Ernie De La Trinidad was 1-for-4 and is batting .302.  Mason has an ERA of 2.51.

Bad stats:  D. J. Burt was 0-for-2 and is batting .191.  Adam Lau allowed five runs in one inning and has an ERA of 9.82.  Kuzia has an ERA of 17.36.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 37-29, in first place in the AA Central/North, 1.5 games ahead of Arkansas.

CEDAR RAPIDS 13, SOUTH BEND 3 IN SOUTH BEND

Leading 4-3, the Kernels scored eight runs in the fourth.  Edouard Julien hit a grand slam in the inning.

Batting stars:  Max Smith was 3-for-4 with a home run (his fourth), a double, a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.  Wander Javier was 3-for-6.  Julien was 2-for-3 with a grand slam (his fourth homer), three walks, and two runs.  Jair Camargo was 2-for-5 with a home run (his twelfth), two runs, and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Ben Gross struck out eight in 5.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.  Tyler Palm pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Nelson Velazquez was 3-for-4.  Bradford Deppermann struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

Starter:  Luis Rijo pitched 1.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Dalvy Rosario was 4-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Davis Bradshaw was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, and three RBIs.  Matt Givin struck out six in five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks.

Starter:  Zarion Sharpe pitched six innings, giving up five runs on ten hits and no walks and striking out two.

Good stats:  None.

Bad stats:  Jesus Feliz was 0-for-3 and is batting .167.  Justin Washington was 0-for-3 and is batting .178.  Aaron Sabato was 0-for-3 and is batting .189.  Steven Cruz allowed three runs in one inning and has an ERA of 5.12.  Sharpe has an ERA of 5.33.
