Minor Details: Games of August 17

A pair of walkoffs for the Saints.  Another rough game for Chris Vallimont.  Alex Isola has a big game.  A successful Class A debut for Alerick Soularie.

ST. PAUL 6, IOWA 5 IN ST. PAUL (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

The Saints scored three in the bottom of the ninth to win it.  Jose Miranda's two-run double tied it and Tomas Telis singled home the deciding run.

Batting stars:  Brent Rooker was 2-for-2 with a home run, his eleventh.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 2-for-4 with a double.  Sherman Johnson was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Bryan Sammons struck out two in a scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Ian Gibaut retired all seven men he faced, striking out one.  Yennier Cano pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Kellogg pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and no walks and striking out five.  Trent Giambrone was 1-for-3 with two walks.

Starter:  Griffin Jax pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and five walks and striking out two.

ST. PAUL 4, IOWA 3 IN ST. PAUL (SCHEDULED GAME--8 INNINGS)

Gilberto Celestino singled home the deciding run in the extra inning.

Batting stars:  Tomas Telis was 2-for-4.  Drew Stankiewicz was 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk.

Pitching star:  Ian Hamilton retired all seven men he faced, striking out three.

Opposition stars:  Jared Young was 2-for-3.  Ian Miller was 2-for-4.  Scott Effross pitched two shutout innings, walking one and striking out one.

Starter:  Drew Strotman pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk and striking out three.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 0-for-3 and is batting .345.  Hamilton has an ERA of 2.91.

Bad stats:  None.

Record:  The Saints are 50-41, in third place in the AAA East/Midwest, a half game behind Toledo.

SPRINGFIELD 8, WICHITA 6 IN SPRINGFIELD

The Wind Surge led 3-0, trailed 4-3, led 5-4, were tied 5-5, and led 6-5, but a two-run fifth put the Cardinals ahead to stay.

Batting stars:  Spencer Steer was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his twelfth) and a walk.  D. J. Burt was 2-for-4 with a walk.  B. J. Boyd was 2-for-6 with a home run (his fifteenth) and three RBIs.

Pitching star:  Mitchell Osnowitz struck out two and walked two in 1.1 scoreless innings.

Opposition stars:  Chandler Redmond was 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and four RBIs.  Ivan Herrera was 2-for-3 with two home runs (his twelfth and thirteenth), two walks, and three RBIs.  Ramon Santos struck out five in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Starter:  Chris Vallimont pitched four innings, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks and striking out one.

Good stats:  Boyd is batting .314.

Bad stats:  Vallimont has an ERA of 5.87.  Erik Manoah, Jr. gave up a run in 1.1 innings and has an ERA of 9.82.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, WISCONSIN 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (10 INNINGS)

Alex Isola hit a two-run homer to walk it off for the Kernels.

Batting star:  Isola was 3-for-5 with a home run (his tenth) and three RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Ben Gross struck out six in five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks.  Melvi Acosta struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  Zach Featherstone struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.  Breckin Williams struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Nash Walters struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Cam Robinson struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Batting stars:  Alerick Soularie was 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs in his Class A debut.  Charles Mack was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Steven Cruz struck out five in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Matthew Swain struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Zach Britton was 2-for-5 with a home run (his fifth) and two RBIs.  Addison Barger was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Starter:  Landon Leach struck out three in three innings, giving up two runs on three hits and six walks.

Good stats:  Soularie is batting .400.

Bad stats:  Kyler Fedco was 0-for-4 in his professional debut and is batting zero.  Misael Urbina was 0-for-3 and is batting .192.  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-4 and is batting .193.  Will Holland was 0-for-3 and is batting .194.  Carlos Suniaga gave up a run in two innings and has an ERA of 5.01.  Leach has an ERA of 6.00.
