ALDS Game 3 – Astros at Twins and Orioles at Rangers

We have ourselves some playoff baseball folks. Having split the two games in Houston the Twins now with a chance to close out the Astros at home and move on to the ALCS. There is literally a generation of Twins fans who have never experienced anything like this. My son is 28 and doesn't really remember the 2002 series against Oakland and then losing to the Angels.

Sonny Gray on the mound for the Twins and it will be nice to have his veteran presence in a big game like this. Also I really like the pitching matchup advantage the Twins have with Cristian Javier going for the Astros. He's a big fly out pitcher so hopefully we see a lot of balls deposited into the stands.

Plus I'll be at the game so very excited.

We can keep this post open and use it for the Orioles at Rangers at 7:00. Let's hope the Birds extend that series a couple more games.

First pitch at 3:07

Twins Lineup
Edouard Julien, DH
Jorge Polanco, 2B
Max Kepler, RF
Royce Lewis, 3B!!
Carlos Correa, SS
Alex Kirilloff, 1B
Matt Wallner, LF
Willi Castro, CF
Ryan Jeffers, C

    1. I feel like Alex has had the first fielding opportunity in 3 games now and hasn't made any of them

  1. Well on the other hand, if we would've scored, the Astros would've been complaining about that non foul tip call

  2. Maybe the Astros are using up all their runs this game and none for the rest of the series

  3. Why we bother pitching to this dude? Just give him a coin flip between double or home run for every at bat.

    1. I'm at a point where I already consider the postseason a success. (Which goes along with a much more Zen view of sports.) I do really want a game 5, though.

  4. on the bright side, we have Joe Ryan going tomorrow. A new day.

Also, I'll be on a plane to the Land of Sky Blue Waters tomorrow afternoon/evening. Maybe there will be good news waiting for me at my Denver layover.

    1. I felt too good going into this game. Sonny Gray going with the home crowd. It just felt like things were lining too much our way. I felt like we were expected to win, and it was too good to be true.

That first inning killed us. While Sonny somewhat recovered, the offense just didn't look like the same guys from the WC series or games 1&2. They weren't patient, swinging at some bad pitches, didn't feel like they were working counts, especially at the end.

Kirilloff has disappointed me. I haven't seen anything out of him offensively, and his defense hasn't been great either. Just seems to be in a slump.

Butt I'll give credit to Javier, he was making pitches work, and able to stay cool much better than Valdez in Game 2.

Momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher, so let's hope Joe Ryan can turn the tides for us.

    1. Last night I put in a PTO request for tomorrow afternoon, expecting a 1pm game time.
This morning I cancelled that request.
On one hand, don't have to spend PTO
On the other hand, I have to work a full day.
      Meh
