I'm trying out two new albums this week:
1. Cymbals Eat Guitars, Lose. Based on several folk's recommendation. Or maybe just Zack over 3 platforms. I'm not fully into it yet, but it definitely seems like something Zack and Nibbish would be into. One song always makes me think it's by Jane's Addiction.
2. The Bug, Angels & Devils. Based on the awesomeness that is Kevin Martin (The Bug, half of Techno Animal, part of Ice), and in particular the singles from the prior album from the Bug, London Zoo. The new album's highs aren't quite as high as the prior album's highs, and it's lows are so low. Gonjasufi's vocals on "Save Me" might be the worst thing from Martin, until three tracks later when the Death Grips are featured on "F--- a B----". Now I've never listened to Death Grips, and they've got good press, so maybe there's some schtick I'm missing. But their vox here make the vocal versions from Two Fingers (a similar project from Amon Tobin) sound good. I can't even tell if Martin's beat is any good. It's too bad, because "This One" ft. Flowdan is pretty great (though it sounds less like Martin and more like Two Fingers), and some of the other tracks are intriguing, with featured vox from Liz Harris (Grouper) and Warrior Queen. I just need to delete this Death Grips collab from my iPod.

I've been to Canada and back. Their accent seems a lot closer to Minnesotan than, say, Texan does.
Muchmusic was celebrating 30 years and showed its "100 greatest videos" off and on.
I caught bits of that. I was surprised it wasn't all Barenaked Ladies and Kardinal Offishall. Whenever things showed up that seemed unlikely to count among "10,000 greatest videos", the only explanation we could ever figure out was that it was Canadian.
I never did see "Northern Touch".

Due to a high recommendation from my favorite music writer of the Aughts (now back at P4k), I've tried out this album by "FKA twigs" and her preceding EPs. It's interesting stuff, but I have a hard time getting into it, or loving any of it. She's definitely got a musical vision, but I sure could use a few hooks to draw me in, like the Weeknd did with his similarly adventurous take on R&B.

I long for the day that my life's regular enough where I recognize a Friday before I wake up in one.

Sorry about the long-running lack of content here. Here's some:
I like some songs on the Angel Olsen album, but I don't think I like the album as a whole.
I like some songs on the Weird Al album, but I don't think I can take the album as a whole. I may go back and collect all his Polka medleys and put them on a CD for road trips.
The Sturgill Simpson album is pretty good, and it's a bummer he's not playing a free stage at the state fair like originally slated. That might have been the recipe for a good WGOM Get-Together at Great State Caucus.
What's with that new single from Grimes? It's not good as a Grimes song or as a pop song.

To bad Lil Jon isn't a Twins fan. I'd love to hear DJ Snake's hit single with Mr. shouting, "Trade Fuld for What?"
