The Pogues – A Pair Of Brown Eyes

Because obligatory. See y'all on the other side of the big water.
Ani Difranco – Both Hands
There's no way I could do this week without any Ani. This is the first song off her first album and also the first album of hers I ever heard. A girl at my high school loaned it to me, and it just about blew my mind. This also marks the moment I when I began moving away from top-40 radio.

2011
I know Bootsy said a while back he never really got into Ani Difranco. Fair enough. As a mainstream-radio-listening wannabe feminist at a suburban high school full of jocks, this was just the right music for me at the right time.
Brenda Weiler – Trickle Down
If Hammerhead is my favorite music act to ever come from Fargo, I suppose Brenda Weiler is my second. I had the hugest of crushes on her in high school. I can't remember who told me to listen to her, but she was way outside of what I normally listened to. I just loved her voice, and for whatever reason was thinking about her tonight. I guess she runs a yoga studio downtown now? Anyway, here's a recent recording of her playing the eponymous song from her first record.

Ani DiFranco – Shameless
I honestly cannot push a Women in Rock week without Ani. Seriously, homegirl kills the guitar, and is a ridiculously good songwriter to boot. Going further back in the catalog here, but it's all good.
1996
To be sure, I'm not sure why she skipped the heart of the bridge, but oh well.
Donovan – Catch The Wind
Here's the D-man reinterpreting one of his own songs. Good show, yo.

James Taylor – Carolina In My Mind
18 hours in NC, then who knows where tomorrow...

Shovels and Rope – The Devil Is All Around
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEXm18WJ5Yg
I've played these two a couple of times (at least I think I have...). I saw them again last week in Baton Rouge, and they never disappoint. Remember, it's not what you've got, it's what you make.
Billy and The Hillbillies – Turkey In The Straw

Oh, yeah. Hope y'all had a good turkey day. Now I'm off to work. Boooooooooooooo.
The Civil Wars – Falling
Special thanks to GreekHouse for his tour de metal (and at least a few of its many subgenres) last week!
How about some moody music for a Monday?

Speaking of falling, there nothing quite as unfortunate as falling for a band only to discover they've already broken up. Oh, well. This performance is from January 2011.
