Through one listen this is my favorite tune from the new Dr. Dog disc

get into it!
ms. calvi's been generating some heat across the pond through most of 2011. throaty, lustful, and proficiently wields an axe to boot (though those skills aren't so much on display in this video). compared favourably to siouxsie and PJ harvey, here she is on later... getting a good amount of sound out of three people.

As a rule, I try to stay away from bands with the F word in the name. As another rule, I tend to shy away from bands whose singer only wears boxer briefs and sneakers on stage for a majority of the show. Furthermore, I usually don't care for bands who have singers that sound like crappy hardcore singers. For some reason though, man, I really dig this tune.
As you would imagine, this song is in no way appropriate for work. Also, the sound quality isn't perfect. Not that would would expect it to be. NXNW, 2011.
while we're on the subject of requests, bootsy asked us to play one a little while back. i told him to post it his damn self, but i guess he's shy, or summthin... in his words:
I'm digging on Goodbye Bread, the new record by Ty Segall. Here's the title track, first as rocking electric version (static imagery, but killer sound)

and then solo in a bathroom [ed: after the jump].

So it turns out her brother, Matt, was the one committed to being one of the worst live performers of all time. Good to know.

The fairer part of the Fiery Furnaces, live in Toronto, 2011. Go buy her new solo album.
It is customary as WGOM vjays to play songs with live videos. Today, I am breaking that custom. You can give this video a lesser rating because of that. However, it is my duty to bring you terrific music. This is me doing so.

The Shakes are an unsigned band out of Alabama that have a lady singing Otis Redding tunes kind of vibe to them. This is their profile page on reverb nation. While they are not playing in the Twin Cities soon, nor do they have a record out for you to buy, I suggest keeping an eye on this group. This song is too good to go unnoticed.
I have been spending some time on pitchfork lately. I have learned that it is very fashionable to sing in a punk rock/metal hybrid that sounds like a lo-fi Kings of Leon singer dude. You know, you gotta have that lo-fi for street cred. Because, duh, Kings of Leon totally sold out after their first record. Anyway, I'd prefer if the singer of this band had a shirt on.

I might warm up to this. You know, if I don't have to look at him with his shirt off. Knitting Factory, 2011.
Paging New Guy. Paging New Guy. Your infatuation with Madeline Follin is on the phone and waiting to begin.
