Some people won't like the Vampy Weeks Extended Universe either - and I didn't like his first solo album that much, the new one seems like it's better but there's no vids from it yet - but anything's got to be better than continuing down that other road
This is something, all right. I really dig it.
Jenny Lewis has gotten so much praise and attention over the years, and, on the strength of Rilo Kiley, rightfully so. But I never really liked all that much of her solo work, despite giving it plenty of chances. It seemed like she was skating by on reputation. I very much enjoy a lot of her latest album though. It definitely wasn't an instant hit for me, but it seems to have grown in depth.
I especially dig how this live performance captures the cavernous sound of the album version.
Seeing and raising DK.
Composed by jazz pianist Billy Taylor, this song was originally an instrumental called “I Wish I Knew”. Taylor recorded it in November 1963 with Grady Tate on drums, Ben Tucker on bass, and a horn section. He also wrote the first verse of lyrics, then collaborated with Dick Dallas on the rest. Ms. Simone recorded the song, now retitled as “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free,” for her 1967 album Silk & Soul. She performs it here at Montreux ‘76.
Been waiting two months for hj to use this, and was waiting longer than that for a live vid of this song...so I'm going to pilfer it and play it now
So at least one song on this Previous Decade list is actually around 25 years old...also on the list is Tame Impala's "The Less I Know the Better"
