Minor Details: Games of 4/16

Rochester plays a road game at home.  New Britain makes a big comeback.  Beloit gets rained out.

ROCHESTER 5, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 3 IN ROCHESTER (YANKEE HOME GAME)

Batting starsMatt Carson was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Matt Rizzotti was 2-for-5 and drove in three.  Joe Benson was 1-for-2 and walked three times.

Pitching starCasey Fien struck out four in three shutout innings of relief, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Dewayne Wise was 2-for-2.  Manny Delcarmen struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Down 3-1, the Red Wings put together a four-run inning on two walks and four singles.  Rizzotti’s two-run single put Rochester in the lead.

Other:  The Yankees are playing home games in other towns, primarily Rochester, this season while their home field is being renovated.  Ben Revere made his Red Wings debut for the season, going 1-for-5.

NEW BRITAIN 10, PORTLAND 5 IN PORTLAND (11 INNINGS)

Batting starsEvan Bigley was 3-for-4 with a walk.  Chris Colabello was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, driving in four.  Pedro Florimon hit a home run.

Pitching starsLuis Perdomo and Daniel Turpen each worked two shutout innings, with Perdomo striking out three.

Opposition stars:  Kolbrin Vitek was 3-for-5 with two doubles.  Ronald Bermudez was 3-for-5 with a triple.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Rock Cats trailed 5-2 after eight.  With two out, Colabello hit a three-run homer to tie the game.

JUPITER 5, FORT MYERS 1 IN JUPITER

Batting star:  None, really.  Angel Morales was the only player to reach base twice, going 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching star:  None, really.  Tony Davis pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Matthew Neil pitched six perfect innings, then was removed from the game.  Christian Yelich was 2-for-3 with a triple and two walks, scoring three times.  Mark Canha was 2-for-4 with a double and drove in four.

Key inning:  The third.  In a scoreless tie, the Hammerheads opened the inning with two walks.  Canha then doubled in two runs to give Jupiter a lead they never relinquished.

KANE COUNTY AT BELOIT

The game was rained out.  It will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
