Minor Details: Games of 5/9

Three homers for the Miracle.  Strong starting pitching for New Britain and Beloit.  Late rallies lead to three Twins wins.

PAWTUCKET 5, ROCHESTER 2 IN PAWTUCKET

Batting starsBen Revere, Ray Chang, and Pedro Florimon each went 2-for-4.  Joe Thurston hit a home run, his second.

Pitching starsBrendan Wise and Tyler Robertson each worked 1.1 scoreless innings.  Wise allowed two hits and Robertson allowed a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Daniel Nava was 3-for-4 with a double, driving in two.  Justin Germano gave up two runs on six hits and two walks in six innings while striking out five.

Key inning:  The second.  With the Red Wings trailing 2-0, Thurston’s homer cut the margin to 2-1.  Che-Hsuan Lin opened the bottom of the second with a double, went to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a single by Nate Spears to put the Red Sox back in front by two.  Rochester never got any closer to the lead than that.

NEW BRITAIN 5, BINGHAMTON 1 IN BINGHAMTON

Batting stars:  Wilkin Ramirez was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, his first.  Danny Lehmann was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Pitching starsSteve Hirschfeld struck out six in six innings, giving up a run on five hits and a walk.  Caleb Thielbar struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

Opposition stars:  Raul Reyes and Juan Lagares each went 2-for-4.  Collin McHugh gave up a run on six hits and two walks in seven innings.

Key inning:  The eighth.  With the score tied at one, Joe Benson reached on an error to open the inning.  The next two batters went out.  Deibinson Romero doubled to drive in the go-ahead run.  Estarlin De Los Santos walked, and a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third.  Lehmann hit a two run double and James Beresford delivered an RBI single to make the score 5-1.

FORT MYERS 7, DUNEDIN 5 IN DUNEDIN

Batting starsLance Ray was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, his fourth homer.  Andy Leer was 2-for-4 with two solo homers, his first two homers of the year.

Pitching starMiguel Munoz struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jake Marisnick was 3-for-5 with a double.  Sean Ochinko was 3-for-4.  Ryan Schimpf was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The score was tied at five.  With one out, Daniel Santana reached base on a strikeout and then stole second.  He advanced to third on a fly ball and scored on a single by Daniel Rohlfing to give the Miracle a 6-5 lead.  The Blue Jays put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the inning, but a double play ended the threat.

BELOIT 2, PEORIA 1 IN PEORIA

Batting starRory Rhodes was 2-for-4.

Pitching starSteven Gruver gave up just one run in 7.2 innings.  He allowed eight hits but walked none.

Opposition stars:  Paul Hoilman was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Taiwan Easterling was 2-for-4 with a double.  Kyler Burke gave up two runs on six hits in 6.1 innings.

Key inning:  The seventh.  In a 1-1 tie, Jonathan Goncalves was hit by a pitch and took second on a single by Rhodes.  A bunt advanced the runners and Adam Pettersen hit a sacrifice fly to give the Snappers the lead.
