Minor Details: Games of 5/26

Fort Myers salvages the day.  The bullpen shines in Beloit.  The Rock Cats drop a pair by identical scores.

GWINNETT 4, ROCHESTER 2 IN GWINNETT

Batting starsMichael Hollimon was 3-for-4 with a homer.  Sean Burroughs was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching starLuke French gave up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six in six innings.

Opposition stars:  Greg Paiml was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in three.  Luis Durango was 2-for-4.  Todd Redmond pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out six.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 2-1, Hollimon led off the top of the inning with a home run to tie the score.  After the first two men went out in the bottom of the inning, Josh Wilson walked, Paiml doubled him home, and Durango singled home Paiml to give the Braves a 4-2 advantage.

PORTLAND 4, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN PORTLAND (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting starsMatt Rizzotti was 3-for-4 with a double.  Chris Colabello was 1-for-3 with a home run (his seventh) and was hit by a pitch.  He scored twice and drove in two.

Pitching starAndrew Albers struck out six in four shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Shannon Wilkerson was 3-for-5 with a double.  Derrik Gibson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk.  Marco Duarte threw three shutout innings, giving up only one hit.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Trailing 2-1, Chris Herrmann drew a two out walk and Colabello hit a two run homer to put the Rock Cats up 3-2.  In the bottom of the inning, a double, a single, and an infield out tied the score.  Two infield singles and a walk brought in what turned out to be the winning run for the Sea Dogs.

PORTLAND 4, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN PORTLAND (SCHEDULED GAME—7 INNINGS)

Batting starEvan Bigley was 1-for-2 with a walk and a three run homer.

Pitching star:  None.

Opposition stars:  Derrik Gibson and Juan Carlos Linares were each 2-for-4 with a double.  Jayson Hernandez doubled and walked, driving in three.

Key inning:  The seventh.  With the score tied at three, a walk and a single put runners on first and second with two out.  Linares then doubled in the winning run.

FORT MYERS 6, PALM BEACH 5 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsOswaldo Arcia was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Michael Gonzales was 1-for-2 with two walks and a two run homer, his fourth.  Lance Ray was 1-for-3 with a walk and a homer, his sixth.

Pitching starRicky Bowen struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and no walks.

Opposition star:  Starlin Rodriguez was 4-for-5 with a double and a triple.

Key inning:  The ninth.  With the score tied at five, Jairo Perez was hit by a pitch to start the inning.  Arcia’s double sent him to third, and a throwing error allowed him to score the winning run.

KANE COUNTY 5, BELOIT 1 IN KANE COUNTY

Batting starAdam Bryant was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching starsTim Atherton struck out four in three perfect innings.  David Hurlbut struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Murray Watts was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, driving in three.  Angel Baez struck out seven in six innings, allowing one run on three hits and three walks.  Robinson Yambati struck out six in three shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The second.  The Snappers made errors on consecutive plays to open the frame, leading to four unearned runs.  Watts hit a three run double and Runey Davis contributed an RBI double.
