Game 139: Clevelands vs. Twins

Cole De Vries takes on Zach McAllister

This sounds like a game that will not be particularly fun to watch for fans of either team. Let's talk about something else, instead. Food, maybe? I know we're big into health again, but I've noticed a distinct lack of culinary pornography around here lately. This saddens me a bit. What's the most delicious thing you've crafted in the past month? What's the most delicious thing you've eaten in the past month?

Twins game viewing optional.

  1. Since it isn't done yet, I can't say my black IPA is the best thing. So, I'll go with the butter pecan ice cream I made last week. It came out so perfect, I almost wet my pants.

        1. I love the nut-and-tree-and-spice flavored ice creams. EAR does not, she wants 15 different kinds of chocolate shoved into one sqround. It's almost more candy held together with ice cream than vice versa.

A few years ago, I got a big bucket of Vanilla and shook Flavorite curry on top of each bowl. It was wonderful, but a bit gritty at the bottom of the bowl.

  2. Evening, gentles. Dinner's a bit late today, I was trimming trees and delivering the daughter to a party. Grilled chicken, Spanish style quinoa, salad, tomatoes, and some pita bread with seasoned olive oil. Summit Abbey Ale to wash it down.

      1. Papa Murphy's and Widmer Okto Festival.

I'd taken a break from drinking and probably only had about six throughout the last three weeks of August. Man, it's tasty after that much of a break. I'm moderating much better now, too, which was the intent.

        1. The more different kinds of beer I sample, the more I find that I really like beer. I'm partial to the more malty styles, but I just like trying different stuff now.

          1. never-ending variety of styles and interpretations. A much cheaper habit to support than wine drinking, too.

          2. Yeah, that's about how it happened to me. I'd been convinced I was a rum/Coke or White Russian drinker before I stumbled here and started reading Barley Pops and Hop Hits and the usual beer chatter. I started trying some of the real stuff after lurking but before posting, in the hopes of not looking like a total beer idiot. I've come a looooong way in four years.

            1. There's a new brew pub in the Nordeast called Indeed Brewing Company that just opened up. I'm going to have to check it out.

              E-6, are you out there?

              1. I was thoroughly impressed and encouraged by the proliferation of local breweries in Minnesota in recent years. The Brewcation map (see the BoF) was very enticing.

          3. Although I've been drinking a wide variety since the time I was legal (the day I turned 21, I bought a case of Schell's Octoberfest), I still keep wanting to try more and more and more variations and takes on things. I'd drink so much less alcohol if it wasn't for my love of the new flavors of beer. And I'd probably drink so much more beer if it wasn't for the alcohol.

That Abbey Ale is superb. I stopped at MGM in Champlin last night and it was one of the 10 or so sixers that I had my eyes on. I ended up with Deschutes stout (good, but I actually prefer Schell's stout), the Leinie's Big Eddy IIPA, and a build-your-own sixer with a 21st Amendment Double IPA can, two different brews from Brooklyn, Newcastle blood red or something*, and "Purity" Kolsch (which seems to be contract-brewed by Brau Bros in Lucan).

*I love build-your-own sixers for letting my try things that make me curious but which would fill me with regrets if I actually bought them over something good.

  3. A few months ago we heard Ben Revere in an interview say that for a snack he likes "a little chocolate Snicker bar." That's what my wife has called him ever since. She thinks he's that sweet.

  4. last year, the Twins hit .312 and had 88 RBI with the bases loaded (130 plate app)
this year (coming into this game) .231 and 86 RBI (143 PA)

  5. Um, food porn... Yeah, I've got stories.... Pulled pork eggs bennedict over jalapeño cornbread with cyanne hollendaise ... Yeah...

  6. so there's this

    LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNeal
Fans in center field taking page from Yankee fans playbook and starting a roll call. Some Twins players picking up on it and waving to them.

  7. Did Dick say that was Perkins first Target Field save? I hope he was talking about this year, since he had two consecutive saves last year at home.

  8. We have the Consuela Countdown - what about the Revere Rundown? He's close to climbing into the Twins' top ten for single season stolen bases.

        1. Play Index makes this rather simple and there wasn't much editing required. Revere has a remote chance at #1, but could finish #2 if he steals nearly every game.

  9. Awesome game. We're still on track for 80-82. If we keep allowing the other team zero runs, I'm pretty sure it will happen!
