  1. I care about the O's-Rangers game approximately 100 times more than this one. Interesting to see Lohse again I guess.

  2. David Ross crushed a HR in his first AB. the next one, he dropped a bunt. The Twins will sign him to a mega deal tomorrow.

  3. I cant believe Kyle Lohse has made it 12 years in the Majors. And, he has pitched his best the last two.

  4. I assume that the announcers are claiming the Braves as the best fielding team in the NL because they had the fewest errors or best fielding percentage. I had to look up who leads baseball in UZR and, hey, the Braves lead in UZR and UZR/150, thus proving that fielding percentage is as accurate as a broken clock.

  5. At the beginning of the game I was kinda pulling for the Braves, but I forgot about the chanting.

    1. fly ball to medium-ish LF. the SS was waving off the LFer and then completely missed the ball. the LF ump ruled infield fly, then the fans starting throwing things on the field

        1. On watching the replay on gameday, that looks like the right call to me.
The shortstop was still under it and backed off when he thought the LF called it.

          1. I think it was the wrong call, at least in the spirit of the rule. The ball was far enough from the infield that an intentionally dropped ball would not have led to a DP. Still, it's a judgement call, so I agree with not overruling it. The Braves still win on errors, 3-1 over the umps.

        1. What ballpark sells glass bottles nowadays. None I think. I know Camden is just plastic.

  6. And the Braves' fans demonstrating why they are my least favorite national league franchise since 1991.

  7. All I know is that Gameday says: "Delayed: other"
and what you guys wrote above.

Where the hell is TK to settle this?
Who invited Knobbers anyways? His records belong to the Rangers.
Will the first ever WC play-in-game be forfeit?
Is Allan there to shrug when asked for a decision?

      1. So... if the Braves come back and win, and later the protest is upheld, do they still have to go back and replay the game?

  8. it may have been an awful call by the umps, but the is NO excuse for throwing things on the field. idiots.

    1. You should write about how the O's are awesome. Alternately, you could write about a blown call by the ump that cause fans at a baseball game to overthrow the United States government. What was the topic?

        1. Write it about a Mayfly nymph in April.
Adulthood! Glorius sex! No eating! I'm dead!
(Actually, I give you permission to just go ahead and use that as your entry. Now you can watch the baseball!)

    1. I would like for them to get a 10 run lead early so that I can go to bed and get ready for my 19 mile run in the morning.

      1. I have f-all to do tomorrow, so I don't care, but I can see your point. Good luck on 19 miles. I can't imagine running for *counts on fingers*...that long.

        1. Taking my time from the 4 miles I did Wednesday, and not allowing for any slowing of pace, it would take me exactly 3 hours to run 19 miles.

  9. so St Louis won a Wild Card play in game, and get a home Game 1 next series? I thought the point of the WC play in was to make it very difficult for WC teams to go to the World Series

    1. I think I remember that the 2-3 format for the LDS is a one year thing due to the fact that the regular season schedule was already set when the decision was made to add the extra layer of playoffs.

    2. Even though the better team gets more home games, would having two away games first over the long-run eliminate home field advantage? I doubt it, but it's still bizarre.

    3. Not Exactly. It gives them incentive to play for the division title once a berth is guaranteed. It isn't to make the WS harder for them to win.

I like that in baseball, all of the teams in the tournament are more-or-less equals, in that there isn't no damned 2-2-1-1-1 7 gamers because heaven forfend that the lower-seeded team actually has played more home games at any point than the higher-seeded team.

2-3 is a bit unusual in that it gives a lower-seeded team a two-game advantage (through two), but I want to let it have a few more years and see how it works.

    1. The people of Atlanta really seemed to enjoy it and showed their appreciation by showering them with gifts!

  10. The Braves have apparently already lost their protest. That was fast. What about the bureaucracy???

  11. Looks like Rhu_Ru was closest for actual score in the StL-Atl game. He predicted 5-2. cheaptoy got the right score, but wrong team.

    1. see, that's why i kind of liked that idea. if 5 people had won it, maybe it wouldn't've been so great, but so far (in practice) it worked fairly and added a little intrigue.

    2. I predicted 7-2. I believe the Cards should protest that due to the boorish behavior of the Braves' fans, the last Atlanta run should be awarded to the Cards instead.

        1. Wow, you're right!
Allan needs to do something about this before Texas owns all players' records.

  12. '64 mph. the state trooper wouldnt even pull you over for that'
nice line by Ernie Johnson about Darvish's curveball.

  13. I will be the first to point out SSS, but Joe Nathan has not been great in the postseason.

      1. I think I'm still just disappointed with those games against the Yankees when he couldn't shut the door.

    1. Not great outcomes. But I thought Nathan pitched pretty well. I can't find video on Andino's double, but vaguely remember that it was a good pitch. Machado's single was hit off a ball at his ankles and off the SS's glove on a drawn-in infield. And then Twitchy gave up a SF.
