Venezuelan View: Games of 11/16

Oswaldo Arcia continues to hit.  Magallanes got some Lively pitching, but it wasn't enough to overcome four unearned runs.

ANZOATEGUI 19, ARAGUA 1 IN ANZOATEGUI

TwinsJosmil Pinto (Aragua) was 0-for-4.  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run, his fourth.  Eduardo Escobar (Aragua) was 0-for-4 with a run.

Aragua:  The team had only three hits, and the Arcia homer was their only score.

Anzoategui:  Jose Castillo was 4-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer (his fifth), scoring three times.  Alexi Amarista was 3-for-5 with a walk, a triple, and a home run, scoring three times.  Paolo Espino pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  Anzoategui got two homers in the first inning, one of them a grand slam by Oscar Salazar, and led 6-0 after one.  They added three in the fourth, four in the sixth, and six in the seventh.  The Arcia homer came in the third.

ZULIA 4, LA GUAIRA 3 IN ZULIA

La Guaira:  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 3-for-5 with a run.  Andy Wilkins (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Endrys Bricino (Detroit) pitched three innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Zulia:  Sandy Leon (Washington) was 4-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in three.  Wilfredo Boscan pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Leon hit a two-run homer in the second to make it 2-1 Zulia.  Leon had an RBI single in the fourth to make it 3-1 and a run scored on an error in the fifth to make it 4-1.  La Guaira had a run walked home in the seventh and scored on an infield out in the ninth to make it 4-3.  La Guaira had the tying run on base with one out in the ninth.

MARGARITA 4, MAGALLANES 1 IN MARGARITA

Magallanes:  Mitch Lively (San Francisco) struck out eight in seven shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Mario Lisson was 1-for-3 with a home run, his ninth.

Margarita:  Carlos Rivera was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a three-run homer, his seventh.  Frank Del Valle (Cubs) struck out seven in 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks.

The game:  Lisson homered in the sixth to give Magallanes a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth, Margarita scored four unearned runs to take control of the game.  One run scored on the error and the other three on Rivera's three-run homer.

CARACAS 6, LARA 1 IN LARA

Caracas:  Yoanner Negrin (Cubs) pitched 5.1 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and one walk with four strikeouts.  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, his ninth.

Lara:  Erasmo Rodriguez (Seattle) struck out six in five innings, allowing no hits and one walk.  Sugar Ray Marimon (Kansas City) pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Oswaldo Navarro's RBI single put Lara ahead 1-0 in the seventh.  In the eighth, Hernan Perez (Detroit) put Caracas ahead with a two-run single and Aguilar hit a three-run homer later in the inning to make it 5-1 and give Caracas control of the game.

Random:  "Sugar Ray Marimon" appears to be his actual name.
