Mexican Matchups: Games of 12/5

A big comeback for Hermosillo.  Home runs are key in Guasave.

HERMOSILLO 5, MEXICALI 4 IN HERMOSILLO

Mexicali:  Chris Roberson was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs.  Ben Guez (Detroit) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Ramon Rios was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in three.  Yunesky Sanchez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Heber Gomez was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.

The game:  Mexicali scored single runs in the first, third, fourth, and fifth to take a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth, Hermosillo got an RBI single by Jesus Aguilar, a three-run double by Owens, and an RBI single by Carlos Gastelum to take a 5-4 lead.  Mexicali did not get a man past first after that.

LOS MOCHIS 3, CULIACAN 1 IN CULIACAN

Los Mochis:  Emmanuel Avila was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Sandy Madera was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Thomas Melgarejo struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on eight hits and two walks.

Culiacan:  Ricardo Serrano was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  Karim Garcia was 2-for-2 with a walk.  Alejandro Armenta pitched six innings, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Serrano singled in the first run of the game in the fourth.  Jake Fox homered in the sixth to tie the score.  It remained tied until the ninth, when RBI singles by Roberto Lopez (Angels) and Madera gave Los Mochis a 3-1 lead.  Culiacan went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

OBREGON 6, GUASAVE 3 IN GUASAVE

Obregon:  Sergio Contreras was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his fourth), scoring twice.  Barbaro Canizares was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his seventh.  Albino Contreras was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.

Guasave:  Eduardo Arredondo was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Japhet Amador (Houston) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.

The game:  Guasave scored on a sacrifice fly in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.  Agustin Murillo homered in the sixth to tie it back up at three.  Sergio Contreras homered in the seventh to give Obregon a 4-3 advantage, and Obregon added two in the ninth on a two-run double by Dan Robertson (San Diego) to take control of the game.  Guasave was retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.

NAVOJOA 5, MAZATLAN 1 IN NAVOJOA

Mazatlan:  Erick Rodriguez was 2-for-4.  Walter Ibarra (Cubs) was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Horacio Ramirez pitched 6.1 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Navojoa:  Jon Weber was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Carlos Orrantia was 2-for-4 with two runs.  Eddie Gamboa pitched six innings, allowing one run on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  There was no score until the fifth, when each team tallied once to leave the score tied 1-1.  In the seventh, RBI singles by Weber and Luis Fonseca gave Navojoa a 3-1 lead.  A wild pitch and an error plated two more in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
