Mexican Matchup: Game of 1/25

A pair of big innings pulls Navojoa even.

NAVOJOA 7, HERMOSILLO 3 IN NAVOJOA

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 1-for-5 with a home run.  Luis Alfonzo Garcia was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Jesus Castillo (Oakland) struck out four in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and no walks.

Navojoa:  Jon Weber was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs.  Rolando Acosta was 1-for-1 with two walks and a two-run homer, his second.  Jose Manuel Lopez struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.

The game:  Navojoa got a pair of first-inning two-run homers, one by Weber and one by Acosta, to take a 4-0 lead.  Hermosillo got on the board in the fourth on an error.  Owens led off the fifth with a homer to cut the lead to 4-2 and later in the inning a walk and two singles, one an RBI hit by Garcia, brought Hermosillo within one at 4-3.  They would get no closer.  In the seventh, Chris Roberson doubled and scored on a Jose Guadalupe Chavez singled to make it 5-3 and a two-run homer by John Lindsey made it 7-3.  Hermosillo did not threaten to get back in to the game.
