Dominican Digest: Games of October 25

A Licey rally falls short.  Singles are the key to big innings for Cibao and Aguilas.  Twins combine to go 8-for-12.

ESTE 4, LICEY 3 IN ESTE

Twins:  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-4 with a run for Licey.  Wilkin Ramirez was used defensively but did not bat for Este.

Licey:  Mel Rojas (Pittsburgh) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run, scoring once and driving in one.  John Lannan (Mets) pitched five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Este:  Tyler Moore (Washington) was 3-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice.  Cameron Maybin (San Diego) was 4-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once.  Elih Villanueva (Miami) pitched five shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Este scored single runs in the first, fifth, sixth, and seventh to take a 4-1 lead.  Licey scored two in the eighth to make it 4-3.  In the ninth, Licey had the tying run on second with none out, but Ruben Sosa (Houston) was thrown out trying to score from second on a single.  The next two batters struck out to end the game.

CIBAO 9, ESCOGIDO 4 IN ESCOGIDO

Twins:  Jeremias Pineda was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one for Cibao.  Deibinson Romero was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Escogido.

Cibao:  Adrian Nieto (Washington) was 4-for-4 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Moises Sierra (White Sox) was 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs.  Ramon Ramirez pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Escogido:  Ronny Paulino (Detroit) was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Jose Casilla (San Francisco) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

The game:  Up 3-2 after four, Cibao scored five in the fifth to put the game out of reach.  A double and six singles produced the runs.

AGUILAS 8, ORIENTE 3 IN AGUILAS

Oriente:  Alex Valdez was 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Matt Fields (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jailen Peguero retired all four batters he faced, striking out two of them.

Aguilas:  Willy Garcia (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Dan Black (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Salvador Sanchez (White Sox) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

The game:  A home run and six singles produced five runs in the Aguilas fourth, breaking a 2-2 tie and putting Aguilas in control of the game.
