  1. So...in the previous inning when Plouffe grounded into a double play. If Rosario had intentionally gotten hit by the ball, could the Twins have avoided a double play? Could the umps have called a double play anyway?

    1. Rule 7.09(f) states

If, in the judgment of the umpire, a batter-runner willfully and deliberately interferes with a batted ball or a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball, with the obvious intent to break up a double play, the ball is dead; the umpire shall call the batter-runner out for interference and shall also call out the runner who had advanced closest to the home plate regardless where the double play might have been possible. In no event shall bases be run because of such interference.

Not sure if that precise rule would apply yet, but seems like the umps would call a double play.

  2. It seems like every call-up this year has come up and hit like crazy. Why can't Buxton? 🙁

    1. According to Dick, all they have to do is just bunt and hit singles to beat the shift.

  3. Baseball is a funny game. Two softly hit balls find holes for hits, and a hard-hit ball goes for a double play.

  4. I just don't get it. Lester has gone 3-2 to Buxton twice and both times threw a pitch out of the zone. He is batting under. 100 with world-class speed. Why don't you challenge him? Oh, well. Thank you.

  5. As long as it just stays in the ballpark, I have confidence that Buxton's going to catch it, wherever it is.

  6. I'm on radio, but my thought is it was a good gamble to send Buxton, even though it didn't work.

      1. Buxton beat the ball, but his hand got the second baseman's foot and not the base.

    1. I hate it because it hurt the Twins, but I still want them to get the calls right.

    1. This use of replay basically allows for Hrbek/Gant on every stolen base. A micrometer shouldn't make a player out.

  7. Where is this game being played? It sounds like there are more Cubs fans than Twins fans.

    1. A good chunk of the Twins fans here left after the ninth. Came here to comment on how obnoxious Cubs fans are (in and around section 315, at least)

      1. Why do you leave after nine innings of a day game on a Saturday? I guess I shouldn't be too surprised after watching so many SoCal fans leave games after the seventh-inning stretch.

        1. Yes, one of the most perplexing pieces of footage to me is the 1988 World Series Gibson home run with the line of cars leaving early to beat traffic in the background.

      2. These interleague series still get a lot of away-team fans.
If you're a Cards or Cubs fan who lives in or near MN, you're going to put in a bunch of effort to get to one of these games if you can swing it.

    1. True, but I'm not going to complain since Boyer has had a .250 BABIP coming into this game. If the Twins didn't make any outs on the bases, they would have had a walk, single and walk to load the bases with out for Plouffe, and his long fly ball would have scored Buxton easily in the eighth.
