  1. Prior to his start today, Gibson's 3rd most comparable season at his current age was 2010 Nick Blackburn. Nick Blackburn's most comparable player in 2010 is 2017 Kyle Gibson.

    1. I was saddened to hear of Bruce Springsteen's passing.

Molitor wasn’t sure how many of his players would make the connection to a Springsteen hit off “Born in the U.S.A.” now more than three decades old, but Buxton got it.

“I did. Right away,” he said. “I thought, ‘Oh, that’s Bruce Springsteen.’ I listen to quite a bit of that type of music. There were quite a few of us who knew who he was.

    2. One by one, the 25 Twins players that walked in that day saw that same four-word reminder. Before heading out for batting practice, a players-only meeting was called.

Veterans Joe Mauer and Brian Dozier ran the meeting, which lasted only 10 or 15 minutes, Buxton said. The mood was somber and purposeful.

“The biggest thing I remember is Joe and Doz stood up and they said, ‘Just because we lost a couple of our brothers, that doesn’t change who we are,’ ” Buxton recalled. “I think them telling us that and so many of us looking up to them as our leaders, it took that weight off our shoulders of, ‘What are we going to do next?’ ”

Joe Mauer, clubhouse co-leader of the only team to make the playoffs after losing 100 games the season before. It's almost as if he's been slandered all these years by someone with "access."

  2. Stanton clip about him approaching 60 includes:
Bremer having mixed feelings about it because Maris is "one of us". "Us"? As in white?
Bert saying he's doing it the right way. Can't miss a chance to bash steroids.

      1. Can you even imagine the level of outrage if that happened, NY lost, and then lost the next day to the Twins too?

Man... the league would have to immediately change their playoff format such that they automatically put the Yankees in the ALCS, and then apply that change retroactively. And also rename the ALCS the "Derek Jeter is still great series."

    1. Milwaukee and Colorado are also 2 games apart for the 2nd NL Wild Card. If each outcome is a coin-flip, there's a 1/256 chance for two tiebreakers.
