ROCHESTER 5, SYRACUSE 4 IN ROCHESTER

Lewis Thorpe struck out the first seven batters and Wilin Rosario produced the deciding run with an eighth-inning homer.

Batting stars:  Rosario was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and two runs.  Luke Raley was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second.

Pitching stars:  Thorpe struck out twelve in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk.  Preston Guilmet pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

Opposition star:  Adeiny Hechavarria was 3-for-5.

Stats:  Randy Cesar was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and is batting .314.

Record:  The Red Wings are 4-9, tied for fifth in the International League North, six games behind Lehigh Valley.

The Blue Wahoos scored two in the sixth to stretch the lead to 5-2.

Batting stars:  Jordan Gore was 2-for-3 with three walks and two runs.  Luis Arraez was 2-for-6 with two runs.

Pitching stars:  Devin Smeltzer struck out four in four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk.  Adam Bray struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Sam Clay struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition star:  Michael O'Neill was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Stats:  Arraez is batting .353.  Smeltzer's ERA is 0.50.  Bray has an ERA of 2.16.

Record:  The Blue Wahoos are 9-4, in first place in the Southern League South, two games ahead of Mississippi.

ST. LUCIE 7, FORT MYERS 2 IN ST. LUCIE

The Mets scored all seven of their runs in the fourth inning.

Batting star:  Ryan Costello was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk.

Pitching star:  Jacob Blank struck out the side in a perfect inning.

Opposition star:  Kyle Wilson struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

Stats:  With his blank inning, Blank continues to have a blank (zero) ERA.

Record:  The Miracle is 9-5, tied for second with Bradenton in the Florida State League South, one game behind Palm Beach.

  1. If you're wondering why Devin Smeltzer only pitched four innings, its because he was hit in the head with a line drive starting the fifth. He walked off the field by himself but I assume concussion tests will follow.
