Minor Details: Games of July 3

A huge comeback by the Blue Wahoos.  Smaller but still impressive comebacks by the Red Wings and the Kernels.  Nobody can come back from thirty-six runs down.

ROCHESTER 6, SYRACUSE 3 IN ROCHESTER

Nick Gordon had a two-run triple in a four-run fourth that gave the Red Wings a 6-3 lead.  Gordon was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, and two RBIs.  Jaylin Davis was 2-for-4 with a home run, his sixth, and is batting .300.  Jordany Valdespin was 1-for-3 with a home run (his seventh) and a walk and is batting .300.  Preston Guilmet struck out five in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Ian Krol pitched a scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one.  The Red Wings are 41-42, in third place, 7.5 games back.

PENSACOLA 14, MISSISSIPPI 13 IN PENSACOLA

The Blue Wahoos trailed 3-0, 6-3, 10-4, and 13-6 before scoring seven in the eighth to tie it.  Ben Rortvedt singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth.  Travis Blankenhorn was 4-for-6 with a two-run homer (his fifteenth) and two runs.  Mark Contreras was 3-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and a walk, scoring twice.  Lewin Diaz was 3-for-5 with a walk and three RBIs and is batting .351.  Rortvedt was 3-for-6 with a home run (his fifth) and three RBIs.  Brian Schales was 2-for-3 with a double and three walks.  Brian Navarreto was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 2-for-5 with a home run (his sixth), scoring twice and driving in two.  Michael Davis was 2-for-5 with three runs.  Sam Clay pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit, and has an ERA of 2.88.  The Blue Wahoos are 9-5 and in first place by one game.

FORT MYERS 1, CLEARWATER 0 IN FORT MYERS

Michael Helman homered in the seventh for the game's only run.  Helman was 1-for-4 and the home run was his third.  The Miracle had just two hits and the Threshers had one, a two-out double in the third.  Edwar Colina struck out nine in eight shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  His ERA is 2.63.  Zach Neff pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up a walk and striking out one.  His ERA is 2.25.  The Miracle is 6-10, in fifth place, 5.5 games back.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, BURLINGTON 4 IN BURLINGTON

Yeltsin Encarnacion's three-run double in the ninth put the Kernels up 5-4.  Encarnacion was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Tyler Palm struck out six in six innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk.  Brian Rapp struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Moises Gomez struck out two in a perfect inning and has an ERA of 2.93.  The Kernels are 7-6, in fifth place, three games back.

PULASKI 4, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN PULASKI

Nelson Alvarez' RBI single in the second broke a 1-1 tie.  Charles Mack was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Osiris German retired all four men he faced, striking out two, and has an ERA of 1.00.  The Twins are 7-8, tied for second, 2.5 games back.

GCL TWINS 5, GCL BRAVES 2 AT BRAVES

A three-run fourth gave the Twins a 4-0 lead.  Keoni Cavaco was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Parker Phillips was 2-for-4 and is batting .433.  Anthony Escobar struck out five in five hitless innings, giving up only a walk.  His ERA is zero.  Matthew Swain retired all four men he faced, striking out three of them.  His ERA is zero.  The Twins are 4-4, tied for second, 2.5 games back.

DSL YANKEES 38, DSL TWINS 2 AT TWINS

That's not a typo.  The Yankees line score was 0-3-9-6-5-5-6-1-3.  Six spots in the Yankees order batted nine times.  They had thirty-one hits, drew twelve walks, and had four hit batsmen.  The Twins also made six errors.  The Twins used seven pitchers, the worst of which was Carlos Gutierrez, who allowed eleven runs (ten earned) on eleven hits in 1.1 innings.  The plus side is that he struck out three and walked none.  Wilfri Castro was 2-for-2.  The Twins are 8-17, in eighth place, 9.5 games back.
