Leading 4-0, Gwinnett scored six in the fourth for their second consecutive blowout win.

Multi-hit games:  Diego Castillo was 2-for-4.  Matt Wallner was 2-for-4.

Pitching prowess:  Jeff Brigham pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Diego Castillo struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Anthony Prato pitched two innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and striking out one.

Loss:  Louie Varland (3-7).

Opposition standout:  Nacho Alvarez, Jr. was 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, three runs, and three RBIs.

Suspended in the sixth with the score tied 1-1.  Will be completed today.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 8, QUAD CITIES RIVER BANDITS 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Cedar Rapids led 6-0, but Quad Cities cut it to 6-5 before Agustin Ruiz hit a two-run homer in the seventh.

Multi-hit games:  Misael Urbina was 3-for-3 with two runs.  Gabriel Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Ricardo Olivar was 2-for-4 with two runs.

The Twins scored four in the first and led all the way.

Multi-hit games:  Carlos Silva was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Guillermo Sosa was 2-for-3 with two runs.  Eduardo Beltre was 2-for-4.  Ramiro Dominguez was 2-for-4.

Gwinnett provided the fireworks, as they scored in seven of the nine innings and scored multiple runs in six of them.

Multi-hit games:  Alex Isola was 3-for-4 with a double.  Patrick Winkel was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Matt Wallner was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Chris Williams was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Yunior Severino was 2-for-5 with a double.

Multi-RBI games:  None.

Loss:  Caleb Boushley (8-3).

TULSA DRILLERS 3, WICHITA WIND SURGE 2 IN WICHITA (10 INNINGS)

Carson McCusker tied it 2-2 with an RBI double in the ninth, but Bubba Alleyne singled home the deciding run in the tenth.

Pitching prowess:  Zebby Matthews struck out six in six innings, giving up two runs on four hits.  Regi Grace pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.  Miguel Rodriguez struck out two in a perfect inning.

Loss:  Ricardo Velez (0-1).

Opposition standout:  Chris Campos struck out six in six innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits and two walks.

Record:  Wichita is 4-5, tied for fourth, two games behind Arkansas.

QUAD CITIES RIVER BANDITS 3, CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 2 IN QUAD CITIES (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Quad Cities scored all their runs in the bottom of the seventh.  Jared Dickey singled home the deciding run.

Montero and Festa both making their second career starts tonight. Montero's first start was in the second game of a double header in May. He made another appearance, seemingly in a bulk appearance, a week ago at home. Neither appearance was good, 4.1 innings each time and giving up four and five runs respectively. I expect another 4.1 inning start but this time six runs over that time.

Festa also gave up five runs last time but clearly it was from one bad inning so I expect a quality start tonight.

Zuzu’s Petals – Cinderella’s Daydream

Very sad news yesterday that Laurie Lindeen of Zuzu's Petals died unexpectedly. Laurie started the beloved and pioneering Minneapolis band Zuzu's Petals in the late 80's that led the way to other women-led bands. Laurie was a great writer, mentor to other bands, and was beloved in the Minneapolis music community. She will be missed.

St. Paul scored all their runs in the second inning.  Patrick Winkel had a two-run double and Brooks Lee hit a three-run homer.

Multi-hit games:  Matt Wallner was 2-for-4 with a double.

Home runs:  Lee (7).
