Game 97: Rays at Twins

Despite their current place in the AL East standings, the Rays have been pretty hot lately, winning 15 of their last 20 games. The Twins, on the other, wanted to believe that winning 5 of 6 before the All Star break meant they'd be in a position to pressure the front office into avoiding being "Sellers" at the trade deadline. Unfortunately, they have spent the past 2 games searching for offense, combining for 11 hits on Friday and Saturday.

The Twins send Kevin Correia to the mound (5-11, 4.61). Since June 5  he has a 2.30 ERA (seven starts). Unfortunately, he's only 3-4 in those games as he hasn't receive much run support, including none in three straight outings at one point before a win over Colorado on July 12.

The Rays send Chris Archer (5-5, 3.41 ERA)  to the mound.

Game 94: Twins @ Rockies

In the final game before the All-Star break, the Twins are about where I expected them to be: at the bottom of the AL Central and below .500. However, a win here today would close out the second series win and a 5-2 record on the road trip. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Today, Phil Hughes is looking to pick up where he left off in Seattle. He'll be facing off against Brett Anderson.

Game 87: Yankees @ Twins

In case you haven't heard about it, Derek Jeter is retiring and today is his last (regular season) game in Minnesota. For some reason, the Twins figured the most appropriate home for the last Second Base bag used at the Metrodome was Jeter's closet. I know there haven't been a ton of quality players manning the middle for the home team in the past 15+ years, but c'mon, Derek F*cking Jeter?! It's a nice gesture for a retiring player, but I'd prefer they hang on to that piece of memorabilia for someone who actually played more than 30 games in that building.

Since moving to Target Field, the Twins have not won back-to-back home games against New York. They last beat the Yankees in consecutive games at home six years ago. Let's hope that changes today.

“What has it gots in its pocketses?” Pocket Knives & Multi-Tools Discussion

We had an informative discussion about pocket knives that developed into a conversation about what people carry in their pockets (and where). You can find it here, complete with links to some of our recommendations.

I should also add that it's hard for me to judge if gentlefolks carry knives in their pockets anymore. Having lived in Texas, and now Louisiana, people carry big honking knives as a don't eff with me statement.

Game 67: Twins at Tigers

Greetings from SFO - we're flying home today after finishing up the cross country RV tour of the Western US ... 'vacation' wouldn't be accurate, but I wasn't at work and did see some amazing stuff. I haven't been following the squad much except to see a box score here and there. Lots of roster changes to catch up on when I get home (Plouffe to the DL with a "left oblique strain" & Florimon up is apparently the most recent).

Anyway, they managed to score 8 runs over the last three frames (and still lose) yesterday. Hopefully that offense can pick up where it left off since I don't anticipate Nolasco will pitch a shut-out in the rubber match.
