Twins Record: 27-39, 8.5 games out of first. Wait, what?

Over the last three games the Twins have won three games. More specifically they've won 8 of their last 10. Which is huge. Who needs Joe Mauer anyway? Oh, right, we do.

By the numbers, this was Carl's night. He worked nine innings on 96 pitches, 66 of which were strikes, facing 32 batters. Carl struck out five, walked three, and allowed one earned run. A total of four double plays were turned behind Carl tonight including a 3-6-1 gem that would have impressed kelly wells. The offensive numbers weren't bad either. The MVP had three stolen bases, which doubled his total on the year. Cuddy also went 2-3 and scored two runs. Sweet Ben Revere went 2 for 4 with a double, raising his average to .282, and stole a bag in the sixth. Cassilla went 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Even Dinkelman had a good night at the dish by going 2 for 3 with an IBB. Clearly, opposing teams fear the Dinkeldonger. Carl made it interesting in the last inning by allowing a leadoff hit followed by a double. Pavano then manned up and struck out Carlos Quentin, caught a smoking hot come-backer, and got AJ "assclown" Pierzynski to weakly ground out. That was easy.

Go get some culture at the Guthrie Theater this summer. They've staging God Of Carnage and the H.M.S. Pinafore, several conversations with actors and directors including Rainn Wilson (Dwight from the Office), and they host summer theater workshops for kids and adults.

Time to check in on the king of the savers leader board. MoRo's corpse continues to dominate the league that counts, but two other dudes in the family friendly league race ahead of him.

The twins got off to an early start last night by scoring a run in the first inning. I know, I know. I couldn't believe it either. plouffe (!)'s error cost the Twins two runs in the second, but the hometown nine roared back with two more runs in the third. Carl (no stache) Pavano tossed seven excellent innings giving up 3 runs, 1 earned, and kept the Twins in the ballgame. Pavano pitched well giving up 6 hits, striking out 2, and he issued no free passes. Glen Perkins continued his dominance out of the pen, pitching one and a third allowing a hit and striking out 2. Joe Nathan came into the ball game grooved a pitch the Kurt Motorbike smashed for a double. But not to worry murry, he struck out Mark Ellis on two pitches out of the zone, and induced a ground out to end the inning. Shortening came on in the tenth to close the game out after plouffe (!) knocked in Del on a sacrifice fly. All told, plouffe was responsible for five of the seven runs scored last night. I'm glad he provided 3 of them for the good guys. That's two in a row. We're going streaking!

Crisco, always a good idea in the ninth. Matt Capps is now ranked 20th(give or take) in the King of the Savers race with five saves. A rotting corpse in NYC and some dude in Florida are tied for first with 11 saves on the season.

What can I say about a game that I didn't watch? Not a whole lot, but if someone would post a picture of a painting by Jasper Johns involving a broom on flickr with an agreement to share through creative commons I would repost said photo. That and Jason Kuble is swinging the ever loving fire out of the bat right now.

The last time I wrote a recap I said something like 'frankie had a rough day on the mound'. SoCal felt like that was an unfair assessment. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that frankie had a rough day on the mound, and I'm pretty sure SoCal will agree. After allowing hits to the first five batters Liriano struck out the next two batters, issued a base on balls, and induced a ground ball to end the inning. Frankie retired the next six batters in order. Then the wheels fell off the bus. He gave up a single to the first batter in the 4th inning, and then walked the next two to load the bases. Hacker was brought in to relieve frankie, and subsequently walked the first two men he faced. The mortician was called and the game was pronounced dead at the scene.
