FMD: So long, 2015! (GUEST DJ SIGNUP)

Well cats and kiddos, we're wrapping up another year of the sheep (or goat, depending on how your own year went). As such, we got some guest DJing that needs to be done:

First up, we need a new crop of DJs for weeks next year. Let us know below in the comments, and we'll follow our normal methodology.

Also, December will be for the BEST OF 2015. Everyone who wants one will get a day to showcase their favorite music of the past year. We'll throw everyone in a pool and fill out a calendar in a little bit here.

And finally, feel free (he likes it) to drop your lists below.

FMD: Listening Habits

Up through much of college, I had no real ambition to expand my musical listening habits. I liked what I liked and that was fine. Then a few years ago, I was devouring new music at the rate of about an album a week. But eventually I burnt out on the high turnover and I couldn't really tell you what 3/4th of the albums were like. In the last year or two, however I've started listening to a small number of albums repeatedly (e.g. Metamodern Sounds and lately Something More Than Free), over and over, taking in as much as I can and trying to hear every different part of the song, each instrument and vocal track.

I have been exposed to so much new music here, through FMD and the DJs (to whom I sincerely apologize to for my very uneven listening and voting. Y'all put in so much work. Don't think it goes unnoticed or unappreciated) I'd say the top three (in no particular order) favorites I've found via the Basement are:

  • The Hold Steady
  • Sturgill Simpson
  • Dinosaur Jr

Have you found anything here that is now indisposable?

Okay, so, a few quick points:

-Thank you everyone for submitting, and some of you way too much (the request was pretty specific, right?).  I haven't gone through the last post's SPOILERs, but according to the compiler, the number of submissions wildly exceed the number of submitters (which was a no-no).
-I really wanted to get a chance to create and edit a much more concise list, but several factors conspired against me.
-As such, whatever, I just slapped whatever everyone submitted together in Spotify list for all that want to spice up their Halloweekends (probably best to play it on shuffle).
-We'll do this better next year (ha! fat chance).
-Also, to whomever requested the Barn Owl screeches, they were not available on said streaming music service.

FMD: It’s the Great Halloween Mix, WGOM

HERE'S THE DEAL:

Put One (1) suggestion for a Halloween mix song in a SPOILER comment. A neutral party will collect all the nominations and submit them anonymously (deadline Sunday). The mix will be capped at 100 minutes (should we receive that many suggestions), and will be released next FMD.

Any questions, go nuts. Otherwise, properly SPOILER your tracks and we'll see you next week.

Since I never got around to a plan, this will be my last post and then we'll hand off duties as such:

Nibbish: February 19-March 18
Five weeks per person. (If we get more volunteers, the next two get March 25-April 22 and April 29-May 27.)
