2013 Game 142: Angels at Twins

So the Red Wings fall in the playoffs and we get to see The Replacements tonight as the Twins call up seven players from Rochester for a September cup of coffee. I'd suggest getting that coffee to go, boys. Something about the barely replacement-level quality of this team and these call-ups is leaving me feeling so...unsatisfied.

Pedro Hernandez (3-1, 5.19 ERA) vs. Jered Weaver (9-8, 3.33 ERA) in a makeup game from April. Aside from the chance of getting shut out, I don't much like our chances tonight. Play ball (anyway)!

2013 Game 141: Twins at Blue Jays

The Twins finish off another crummy Toronto series now needing to finish 12-10 to reach my preseason hopes of avoiding 90 losses. Well, at least I'm engaged in something Twins-related. Will they hold my attention through the first football games of the season? Possibly. I guess it depends on what game is on here, and that's a testament to how much of a chore the Twins are right now. However, as the Padre always says, in three weeks they're gone for six months, so you'd better see them now.

If all else fails, there's a fantastic race going on in the NL Central and meaningful baseball is being played all around the country.

And hey, if you think we've got it bad, consider the Jays: they were a popular preseason pick to win their division, and they're now one of the only three teams in the entire league that can't.

...Bengals-Bears and Seahawks-Panthers?! Are they throwing darts or something? Yeesh.

Battle of the former Mets tonight.

The Twins have four wins to win to match last year's total. With 24 games remaining, at their current pace they are projected to finish with 71 wins. The remaining schedule will make getting to 70 wins difficult. Three games against the Jays, a makeup game against the Angels, and three more against the White Sox. The other 17 games are against the A's (7), Rays (3), Tigers (3), and Indians (4).

Hernandez (3-1, 5.54 ERA) vs. Cosart (1-1, 1.59 ERA)

If the Twins want to secure the #3 pick in the draft, bringing Hernandez back up is a good place to start. I don't have a whole lot to say outside of that, though. The team is still without Mauer and Morneau was still traded, so the lineup won't look real sexy. Course, that un-sexy lineup hung 10 on the 'Stros yesterday, so level of competition and all.

After taking two of three from the AL West leading Texas Rangers and coming tantalizingly close to a sweep, the Twins mosey on over to Houston for a three-game set with the Astros. You think the Twins season is en route to hell in a hand basket? The Astros have already lost 91 games and are likely on their way to losing 100+. That's a heaping helping of futility right there. Both teams are sending out youngsters to pitch today, Albers (2-2, 2.92 ERA) for Minnesota and Paul Clemens (4-4, 5.81 ERA) for Houston. Alex Presley will be back out in center field, he went 3-4 with an RBI in his Twins debut yesterday. Buy American, look for the union label, and play ball!

2013 Game 135: Twins at Rangers

I find myself wanting to see a game today, but I'll catch maybe an hour before I have to run to work. At least I'll see one or maybe two of Alex Presley's at-bats!

The Twins have to go 15-13 now to avoid the 90-loss plateau, so I'm thinking that ship is sailing pretty quick here. We'll have to hitch our postseason hopes on Morneau or something, or at least get into the AL playoff races (the NL, barring some major comebacks, looks to have its five teams pretty well set).
