Oh, it's going to be a long night if I never break free. Lots of rain here in the delta, folks. Muddy for sure.

I'm off to see these fellas, the hold steady, and horray for the riff raff today. The outside venue got several inches of rain over the last 24 hours, so shrimp boots it is.

Never can have too much Otis Redding.

Some great jazz crossover albums were released in 2013, but none hit me harder than Gregory Porter's Liquid Spirit. I just got tickets to see Porter in Chicago next month, where he's opening for Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano, Esperanza Spaulding, & Leo Genovese. I think the last time I was this excited to see someone live, it was Keith Jarrett.

I think the last show I saw at First Avenue in 2013 was Black Joe Lewis, but I could be forgetting one. He's got a pretty fantastic red guitar.

This deserves a better day with potentially more traffic, but I'm too lazy (and still bloated) to go looking for anything else today. If they're near you you should go see these folks.

I love, love, love these folks.
