Minor Details: Games of 7/11

Rochester.  No games scheduled.

Binghamton 5, New Britain 3 in New Britain.  All the runs were scored in the first four innings.  Joe Benson had two doubles.  Nate Hanson singled and doubled.  Matt Schuld pitched the first four innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four.  Tyler Robertson struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Ft. Myers 5, Brevard County 1 in Brevard County (Game 1—Scheduled 7 innings).  The Miracle broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fifth.  James Beresford had two singles and a double.  Jamaal Hawkins singled and doubled, raising his average to .311.  Oswaldo Arcia had two hits, also raising his average to .311.  Kane Holbrooks pitched a complete game, giving up an unearned run on four hits.  He walked none and struck out six.

Brevard County 6, Ft. Myers 5 in Brevard County (Game 2—Scheduled 7 innings).  A four-run inning again made the difference, but this time it was the Manatees who did it in the sixth inning.  James Beresford and Aaron Hicks each had two hits.  Starter Jhon Garcia wemt four innings, allowing two runs seven hits and a walk.

Clinton 8, Beloit 2 in Beloit.  The LumberKings scored six in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.  The outburst came off starter Andrew Achter, who had pitched well until then but was charged with seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks in four innings.  He struck out four.  Ben Tootle pitched two shutout innings of relief.  Daniel Santana and Jairo Perez each had two hits, with Perez raising his average to .415.

Elizabethton.  No games scheduled.

GCL Twins 2, Rays 0.  Both Twins runs came in the fourth.  Starter Angel Mata worked three hitless innings, walking two.  Luis Nunez, Gonzalo Sanudo, and Cole Johnson each followed with two shutout innings, with Nunez getting the win and Johnson striking out three for the save.  Twins pitchers gave up just two hits and two walks.  Joshua Hendricks had three hits to raise his average to .318.  Dereck Rodriguez singled and doubled, driving in both Twins runs.

DSL Twins 14, Cubs1 3.  The Twins led 4-3 after six, then scored seven in the seventh.  Jhon Silva had four hits.  Victor Arias and Erick Gonzalez each had two hits, with Gonzalez scoring three times.  Carlos Martinez drove in four runs.  Starter Junior Subero struck out six in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and walking none.  Ezequiel Zoquiel struck out five in 1.2 innings, but also surrendered three runs on a hit and five walks.  Four relievers held the Cubs1 scoreless the rest of the way.

2011 Home Run Derby: WOOO AL EAST

Tonight, the AL East takes on the NL Central plus Matt Kemp. Chase is a home run park, so just how long will this thing take? How long will it take for me to remember that these get annoying after a while? Will one of the very few dudes I like actually pull it off?

Minor Details: Games of 7/10

Rochester 3, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 1 in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  The Red Wings scored all their runs in the first two innings.  Delmon Young hit a two-run homer in the first and Steve Singleton hit a solo shot in the second.  Kevin Slowey pitched 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out three.  Cole DeVries worked 2.1 scoreless innings to get the win.  Jim Hoey allowed an unearned run in the ninth to get the save.

Binghamton 9, New Britain 4 in New Britain.  The Rock Cats led 4-1 after two, but it was all downhill from there.  Chris Herrmann and Mike Hollimon each had two hits.  Brett Jacobson allowed five runs on four hits and four walks in 4.1 innings to take the loss.

Ft. Myers at Brevard County.  Postponed.  Will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.

Beloit 5, Clinton 0 in Beloit.  The Snappers scored four in the fourth.  Manuel Soliman worked seven innings, giving up seven hits and no walks.  Nelvin Fuentes pitched two perfect innings.  Jairo Perez had two hits, raising his average to .412.  Lance Ray hit a two-run homer.

Elizabethton 5, Greeneville 4 in Elizabethton.  The Twins led 5-2 after three.  Nick Lockwood had four hits including a double.  Kennys Vargas and Jairo Rodriguez each singled and doubled.  Max Kepler had two hits.  Tim Shibuya got the win, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks in six innings.  Matthew Summers got the save; he faced four batters, getting the first to hit into a double play and striking out the next three.
