WBC Wrapup: How the Lads Fared

A rundown of how Twins players did in the World Baseball Classic:

James Beresford (Australia): 2-for-11 with a walk.

Andrew Albers (Canada): Three innings. Two runs on six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Justin Morneau (Canada): 7-for-11 with three doubles and a walk. He scored four times and drove in three.

Ray Chang (China): 4-for-11 with a double and three RBIs.

Samuel Deduno (Dominican Republic): Thirteen innings. Two wins. One run on eleven hits and five walks with seventeen strikeouts.

Drew Butera (Italy): 3-for-16 with a double and a home run. He drove in four.

Chris Colabello (Italy): 6-for-14 with two home runs and a walk. He scored four times and drove in seven.

Shairon Martis (Netherlands): Seven innings. Seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Tom Stuifbergen (Netherlands): 6.1 innings. Nine runs (eight earned) on eleven hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

Jose Berrios (Puerto Rico): Two innings. Four runs on five hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Eddie Rosario (Puerto Rico): 3-for-14 with a double.

Glen Perkins (USA): Two innings. Two runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Joe Mauer (USA): 9-for-21 with two doubles, a triple, and five walks. He scored four times and drove in two.

Deolis Guerra (Venezuela): Injured. Did not play.

    1. Oops. Don't know what I was thinking there. My subconscious does some really strange things sometimes.

      1. I now see that what I had intended to do was put Drew Butera's stats there, but for some reason went to Nick Punto. Maybe it's because I do these things really early in the morning and I wasn't quite awake yet. Anyway, I've fixed it now.

  1. Watching Rosario play was pretty rough. It was obvious he was overmatched.

    I wonder if the Twins encourage players to play in the WBC. The Twins lead all teams in number of players in the WBC with 14 out of a maximum 15.

      1. Butera wasn't there when I posted. However, I would classify Butera's performance as "status quo".
