Minor Details: Games of August 10

Kennys Vargas keeps it going for the Lookouts.  Aderlin Mejia has a big game for the Miracle.  Jermaine Palacios keeps hitting as the E-Twins split.  An eight-run inning carries the GCL Twins.  Not enough offense for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER AT BUFFALO

Rained out.  Will be made up as part of a doubleheader Thursday.

CHATTANOOGA 6, MOBILE 5 IN CHATTANOOGA (16 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  D. J. Hicks was 3-for-7 with a double and a run.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-7 with a triple and a walk, scoring once.

Pitching stars:  Tim Shibuya pitched four shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Alex Muren pitched three shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Alex Wimmers struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Rudy Flores was 5-for-8 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Garrett Weber was 3-for-7 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Dominic Leone pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  The BayBears led 3-1 after six, but Stuart Turner's two-run single capped a three-run seventh that put the Lookouts up 4-3.  And error allowed the tying run to score in the eighth and we went to extra innings.  Weber singled in a run in the top of the eleventh, but Adam Brett Walker II had an RBI single of his own in the bottom of the seventh to tie it 5-5.  The Lookouts had the bases loaded with none out, but did not score any more.  It stayed tied until the sixteenth, when the Lookouts opened the inning with three consecutive singles, the last an RBI hit by Niko Goodrum that ended the game.

Of note:  Goodrum was 1-for-6 with a walk and two RBIs.  Max Kepler was 0-for-6 with a walk.

FORT MYERS 8, ST. LUCIE 4 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting stars:  Aderlin Mejia was 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs.  Tanner Vavra was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Nick Burdi struck out three in two perfect innings.  Jake Reed pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Colton Plaia was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Stefal Sabol was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  David Wright, beginning a rehab assignment, was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

The game:  The Miracle scored three in the fourth to break a 2-2 tie.  Vavra had an RBI double in the inning and Walker and Mejia had run-scoring singles.  The Mets got two in the fifth to make it 5-4, but Mejia had another RBI single in the sixth and the Miracle added two in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Mitch Garver was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Marcus Knecht was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI.  Mat Batts struck out five in five innings, but gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS

GREENEVILLE 5, ELIZABETHTON 3 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Kamran Young was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his third.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  The Twins had only two hits in the game.

Pitching star:  Andro Cutura pitched four innings, giving up a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Myles Straw was 0-for-2 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Brauly Mejia was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Jose Hernandez pitched four innings, allowing one run on one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Daz Cameron tripled home a run in the third to put the Astros up 1-0, but was thrown out trying to make it an inside-the-park home run.  The Twins tied it in the fourth when Palacios doubled and scored and took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on Young's two-run homer.  It didn't last, as the Astros tied it in a two-run sixth that featured doubles by Osvaldo Duarte and Mejia.  The Astros had men on second and third with two out when a throwing error allowed them both to score for a 5-3 lead.  The Twins went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Of note:  Alex Perez was 0-for-2 with a walk.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-1 with a walk and an RBI.  A. J. Murray was 0-for-3.  Lewin Diaz, making his Appalachian League debut, was 0-for-2.

ELIZABETHTON 3, GREENEVILLE 2 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Daniel Kihle was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-4.  A. J. Murray was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Nate Gercken struck out seven in 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks.  Anthony Mciver struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Myles Straw was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.  Kyle Tucker was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Yhoan Acosta struck out five in five innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk.

The game:  Murray singled in a run in the fourth to tie the score 1-1, but the Astros got the run back in the fifth on Straw's RBI single.  It stayed 2-1 until the seventh.  A pair of walks and a bunt put men on second and third and Kihle delivered a two-run single to win the game.

Of note:  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-3.  Brian Olson was 0-for-2 with a walk.

GCL TWINS 11, GCL RAYS 3 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Christian Cavaness was 2-for-4 with a double and a run, scoring once and driving in one.  Kolton Kendrick was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Roberto Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs.

Pitching star:  Eduardo Del Rosario pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Rafelin Lorenzo was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Garrett Whitley was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Justin Marsden pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

The game:  The Twins had an eight-run inning in the second and the game was pretty much over right there.  They had only two hits in the inning, both singles.  The inning featured six walks, two hit batsmen, two wild pitches, and two errors.

Of note:  Jorge Andrade was 0-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Luis Arraez was 0-for-3 with a run.

DSL YANKEES1 3, DSL TWINS 1 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Jorge Parra was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Emmanuel Morel was 2-for-4.  Junior Amarante was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Miguel De Jesus struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and one walk.  Randolph Perez struck out four in two innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and two walks.  Fredderi Soto struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Estevan Florial was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Freicer Perez struck out five in five innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and no walks.  Yostty Vargas pitched four shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks with no strikeouts.

The game:  Parra doubled home a run in the fourth to put the Twins up 1-0.  The Yankees1 responded in the fifth, opening the inning with four consecutive singles that produced two runs.  Florial had an RBI single in the sixth for an insurance run.  The Twins loaded the bases in the eighth and put men on second and third in the ninth but could not score again.

Of note:  Gabriel A. Ynfante was 0-for-3.  Gorge Munoz was 0-for-4.  Antonio Tovar was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.
