Game 115: Twins 5, White Sox 2

Correia goes 7 innings allowing 0 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7.

The Twins scored all of their runs in the 5th: Dozier went deep for the 11th time this season with 2 men on followed by Mauer's 9th HR of the year with 1 runner aboard.

The Twins scored 19 runs over the 4-game weekend series on 11 homeruns...every run came by way of the long ball. On the other hand, they were 7-62 with RISP.

After the game, Jamey Carroll to Kansas City for a PTBNL or cash considerations. In 2 seasons on the roster, Jamey hit .257/.327/.301 and saw time at 2B, SS, 3B, DH & P.

The Twins are 7-3 in their past 10 games. They hold a record of 52-63, good enough for 4th place in the AL Central (7.5 games behind KC for 3rd).

Next up -  home against the Clevelanders and a chance to see if Andrew Albers can follow-up his debut gem with another solid outing.

Game 92: Twins 10, Yankees 4

Well, I said I wouldn't post another Sunday recap if the game had been a losing effort. I'm glad that didn't even last 1 time through the order! The Twins had 14 hits on the day and cashed in on 2 Yankees errors to score 10 runs. Aaron Hicks hit his 8th Home Run of the year, a 2-out, 3-run shot in the 3rd inning off of C.C. Sabathia who, by the way, took his first loss against the Twins....since nearly ever. He had been 11-0 in his last 12 starts against the Twins.

There's more, if you care to read on...

Game 78: Royals 9, Twins 8

Both teams hit some homeruns...and doubles - 22 hits between 'em. In the end, the Royals did just enough against Twins pitching to eek out a "W".

Positive note - after going a very long stretch of the season without a HR, Mountie has doubled his HR total in the last 10 games to 4. Trader Clete now has 3 on the year...le sigh.

In other news and to much less fanfare - the NHL held it's draft. Colorado selected 17-year-old center Nathan MacKinnon with the first overall pick.

More on what the Wild did below.

Game 72: Twins 5, Indians 3

In a spot-start, Pedro Hernandez gets his third win of the season and helps prevent an Indians sweep. The offense racked up 5 runs on 12 hits.

The Twins are now 34-38, 5-5 in their past 10 games. They are 7 games behind the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers and 1.5 games behind third place KC.

Not to steal Jeff A's thunder, but the bigger news from yesterday is that Hernandez was optioned back to Rochester and Kyle Gibson was recalled. He is scheduled to make his MLB debut against the Royals on Saturday...apparently, the future is now!

From the Twins website:

Gibson made 15 starts for the Rochester Red Wings this season, going 7-5 with a 3.01 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 28 walks in 92 2/3 innings.

Game 66: Tigers 5, Twins 2

They managed 3 hits and Dozier had 2 of them (one for a Twins HR!). Trader Clete had the other. It was that kind of day.

PJ Walters took the loss - going 5.1 innings while giving up 4 earned runs on 9 hits and striking out 4.

For what it's worth, they're telling me that ii hit his 300th career homerun as a Tiger at Target Field. He hit is 1st career homerun as a Twin at Tigers Field...how many of you care?

The Twins are now at 30-36, 2 games ahead of the last place White Sox and 7.5 games behind the AL Central-leading Tigers.

Off day today.

Pearl Jam – Just Breathe

One of my favorite "non-grunge" PJ tunes...though, who's to say it ain't?

Also - not willing to test the Stones/Beatles preferences round these parts (seen that one get bloody)....and yet, one's a cover and one's a "feat."
