2023 Game 18: Minnesota Twins at Boston Red Sox and other games

First up in Minnesota men's professional sports, the Twins vs Red Sox.

Joe Ryan
vs
Corey Kluber

Kluber stopped being Klubot last year, maybe 2021. His strikeouts are mostly back this year but he's walking a ton and giving up plenty of home runs to a 6.70 FIP. It's a good game to get back to the scoring frequently thing.

At 8:30, possibly after this game ends, the Wild begin their second game against the Stars. The Wolves follow 30 minutes later.

2023 Game Log 17 – Twins at Bosox

It's a rare local one team night as the Twins take on the Red Sox in Boston while the Wolves and Wild get a day off from the playoffs.

Boston seems to be scuffling again this year with a 8-9 record and I'm not really sure what their plan is. It seems like the ownership group has taken their eye off the ball so to speak and are more interested in their other teams they own (Liverpool, FC, Pittsburgh Penguins). Chris Sale on the mound for the Red Sox and it looks like he may be cooked. He's 1-1 for the year but has not looked good as his 11.25 ERA and 2.08 WHIP indicates.

Sonny Gray on the mound for the Twins after coming off a nice weekend split with the Yankees. Gray has been lights out this year and I'd like to see him go deeper into games now that he is apparently over his flu-like illness. Concerns about the bats as Max Kepler seems to be done as a MLB hitter and Byron Buxton has been dreadful since his 2nd base collision last week.

Looks like a pleasant night for a game in Boston and given the 6:10 game start, we can get to bed early to prep for the upcoming late night baseketball and hockey playoffs.

Game 16: Twins at New York

Pablo Lopez!

Through three starts, he's been very very good and there's not a whole lot of things more fun to watch in baseball than a really good pitcher pitching really well for your team.

The Twins will either take three of four on the road in New York or end up with a series split in the most disappointing way by dropping the final two games of the series.

I have to say I like their chances with Pablo on the mound.

The Yankees are pitching some no name starter who probably doesn't even throw that hard (Gerrit Cole), so I'll just assume the Twins have the upper hand here.

Game 15: twins @ evil empire

Hey. Everyone. If the Twins win today, they'll win a series against the Yankees. In New York.

That hasn't happened in 243 years.

If they win the next two, they'll sweep a series against the Yankees in New York. Up until 1984, it was a felony to even type those words. That's what we call progress.

Also progress? Our damn starting rotation, am I right? In 84 innings worth of starts, our starting 6 have given up 23 runs (a 2.46 ERA. seems good) and have only allowed 75 baserunners. Fewer baserunners than innings. Also seems good!

The Twins are one of only four teams in baseball with 10+ wins, and they've won those games against Houston, Chicago, and New York. Optimism seems at least somewhat warranted.

Tyler Mahle takes the mound in an attempt to keep all these good things rolling today. I like his chances.

Go Twins!

2023 Game Log 12: Chicago White Sox at Minnesota Twins

Lucas Giolito
vs
Sonny Gray

Rubber match and final game of this homestand.

Giolito was very good in 2021 and not good at all in 2022. So far after two starts, it's been more 2022 than 2021. He's averaged almost two his per inning.

Still no Correa and still Buxton not in the field. Julien makes his MLB debut. He's been great in his nine games with the Saints so far.

Lineup:
Solano, 1B
Buxton, DH
Miranda, 3B
Gordon, LF
Jeffers, C
Larnach, RF
Farmer, SS
Julien, 2B
Taylor, CF

2023 Game Log 11 – White Sox at Twins

Ten games in and I think we can see a definite pattern here. Twins starting pitching is pretty good and the hitters not so much. Ten games is practically the definition of SSS so I'm still in a wait in see situation, especially as it relates to pitching.

Old Twin friend Lance Lynn on the mound for the Whities and he's been terrible this year, again SSS but he has an ERA of 9.0 and a WHIP of 1.90. Yikes! New staff ace Pablo Lopez on for the Twins and I'm really looking forward to see how he does at Target Field.

Should be a gorgeous night for baseball and given game times this year, you can wrap up this game and move directly to Twolves-Lakers without missing a beat!

First pitch at 6:40.

Twins Lineup

2023 Game 10 – Pale Hosers vs North Subs (in progress)

Carlos Correa was a late scratch due to back spasms. Buxton gets a day off. Gallo is day-to-day and out of the lineup again today. Kepler is on the 10-day IL with patellar tendinitis, and Polanco is rehabbing in the minors. That means two things:

1) Of the Twins’ $158 million payroll, $75.476 million is out of the lineup today. If Jeffers had be scheduled to catch instead of Vásquez, that number would be $85.476 million.

2) Nick Gordon, cleanup hitter.

Game 9 – Twins v. Astros

Three days ago things didn't look so good.

The Twins had lost two in a row, their home opener had been pushed back due to weather, and the defending champs were coming to town for a potentially challenging series.

Today there's good news!

Twins pitchers have decided to strike out everyone and not give up hits. The hitters have delivered enough hits with runners on to take the first two games of the series and Tyler Mahle takes the mound today to try and close out a sweep of the Astros.

Mahle will face Hunter Brown.
