  1. In the one game in the Twins organization that matters, New Britain leads 6-0 in the second inning. Dick would love this game. Brian Dozier led off with a bunt single and scored on a sac fly. In the second, Chris Cates had a bases-loaded bunt single for the second run before Dozier hit a grand slam.

      1. Well, I think the second one was an attempted out but turned into a hit. Two more sac flies in the second make it 8-0, so they've had three productive outs so far (out of six).

  2. speaking of Smokesnax, I had the most delicious venison slim jims whilst in the Fatherland recently. I'm not sure who made them (out of the Mama Bambi harvested by one of my family members this year) -- presumably someone in the Grand Rapids area, but possibly in the Cities. If anyone is interested, I could make inquiries.

They also made a mighty fine venison summer sausage.

  3. If I had ordered Joe Mauer at a restaurant and this is what they brought I would have sent it back.

  4. Butch proclaimed this season a "bust" tonight, but I see he's got the Twins shirt on to watch the game.

      1. Oh, he assumed that Australian for baseball had never heard the doobie brothers, country or western.

  5. This should have been under today's birthdays, but I just found this out. Happy 92nd to Kitty Wells!

    1. The bane of the Minnesota schoolchildren
Oh, that's a good one. We'll have to abbreviate for brevity's sake.

  6. Sorry about the White Sox homer. I left right after Kubel's homer and came back just in time for Mauer's double. I'll be sure to not leave again.

  7. If this turns into a battle of the bullpens, Twins are -16.5 pRAA on the season (despite Perkins' +13.3), ChiSox are +25.7 (led by Jesse's +8.8). So basically, ours sucks and theirs is good.

I'd like our guys not to get thrown out at second base trying to stretch singles.

  8. Dick n Bert were just praising Beckham for putting his foot in front of the bag, but I always thought that you couldn't block the bag without possession of the ball on a non-force out play?

    1. Coming in late, but I'm pretty sure you are right. I was safe after a rundown in softball once on that very call. The guy who blocked me from third base was very irate with the ump.

          1. Sat, Sept 10th. Nation is welcome to come up to do the 5- or 10-K. Taco feed around noon. Parade around 2:30-3:00. I host a barbecue at the house around 5:30-6:00 later - you Cats are all welcome - let me know if you would like to join us.

      1. It looked to me like Nishi was late. I only saw the front angle, but it didn't look like that bad of a throw. At least should have been caught even if the out wasn't recorded.

  9. On the bright side, Ms Buffalo did get me another one of these. So one for aging and one for tonight.

    1. Clicking on the link will only make me more envious. I live in the nations largest miller light market.

      1. I suppose living in the largest American Labatts market isn't so bad then.

    2. This beer has the such a nice sweet chocolate finish. Wow. Terrific.

      1. I have this sneaking suspicion that the Twins have like nine total players, but the worst one plays the part of all the terrible and interchangeable white futility guys.

    1. His defense suddenly looks a lot better. Hughes had a brutal game. Should have had three errors. 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

  10. I think Nishi and I have the same approach against MLB-caliber pitching.

  11. In all honesty, that might be the worst third strike call I have ever seen. Wow. I guess the umps were tired of playing in the rain.

  12. So, let me get this straight. The Twins twice got three-run leads and managed to the preserve the lead through all of one out in both instances? Just awful.

      1. I don't know about new. It was nice to actually have a lead to blow. At least in April and May you could usually just blame the bullpen and/or defense. Not that the offense was good, but it seemed like we had a lot of leads that were squandered. Lately, the Twins have just had their asses handed to them.

  13. Nick nelson tweeted that he thinks Span is away because he's upset with team. It's been a fine year.

    1. He's away from the team because the stress is aggravating his symptoms. Watching this team play is giving me migraines.
