Lehigh Valley 11, Rochester 1 in Rochester. The IronPigs scored five in the third and it was over. No Red Wing had more than one hit. Deinys Suarez surrendered seven runs on seven hits and a walk in 3.2 innings. Chuck James pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk.
Binghamton 8, New Britain 7 in Binghamton. The Rock Cats trailed 6-3 and 7-5, tied it with two in the eighth, but lost it in the ninth. Chris Parmelee had two singles and a homer, his thirteenth. Nathan Hanson singled and doubled. Evan Bigley had two hits. Logan Darnell yielded seven runs on ten hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. Steve Hirschfeld pitched the ninth and took the loss.
Jupiter 1, Ft. Myers 0 in Ft. Myers. Gregg Glime hit a home run in the seventh for the only run of the game. Reggie Williams singled and doubled. Matthew Tomshaw worked five shutout innings, giving up just one hit and two walks. Edgar Ibarra allowed the seventh-inning homer in three innings.
Kane County 2, Beloit 0 in Kane County. The Cougars scored single runs in the fourth and the seventh. The Snappers had four hits, all singles. Manuel Soliman took a tough loss, going seven strong innings and giving up two runs on six hits with no walks.
Elizabethton 13, Bristol 3 in Elizabethton. The Twins led 6-3 after seven, then scored seven in the eighth. Miguel Sano had two doubles and a single, driving in four. JaDamion Williams singled and doubled, raising his average to .328. Matej Hejma and Niko Goodrum each had two hits. Eddie Rosario hit a home run, his thirteenth, and scored three times. Tim Atherton got the win, going five innings while giving up two runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out five.
GCL Rays 4, Twins 0 (5 innings--rain). The Rays scored all their runs in the fourth. Joshua Hendricks got both Twins hits, a single and a double. Ricardo Arevalo allowed all four runs (three earned) on four hits in four innings.
DSL Twins 7, Diamondbacks 0 (4 innings--suspended). Ronald Jimenez has two singles and a triple. Erick Gonzalez, Adonis Pacheco, and Carlos Martinez each had two hits. Junior Subero worked four innings, giving up just one hit and no walks.

My wife got a job yesterday, so we went out to The Burger Stand (I got a Smoke Burger with the Ad Astra Ale from the local Free State Brewery) to celebrate. As a result, my viewing of this game is pretty much limited to the first inning plus some highlight clips. On the other hand, I didn't have to watch a very good team beat a not very good team easily and we just theoretically doubled our yearly income as a family.
Add in the burgers and I think that's a win-win for me.

It's Yankees-Twins. Captain Cheeseburger faces the Dunce, who's barely an ensign, let alone a captain. The Yankees are waltzing to the playoffs again while the Twins are sputtering along to a possible 90-loss season.
Still, though, Joe Mauer is playing right field. This is happening, and it must be seen.

We only have a few games left so we'd better check in on the King of the Savers Race. John Axford and Craig Kimbrel are riding on top of the list with 36 saves apiece, but Jose Valverde and The Beard are hot on their heels with 35 successful saves.
Carl Pavano looks mad, rip snorting mad. Over his last 10 starts he has factored in half the decisions winning one and taking the loss in the other four despite being 'quality' over his last three starts. He's beat up water coolers, spiked the ball (several times), sneered at opposing batters, and, most egregiously, he had to endure Joe Mauer's pitch calling last night. He's angry. You can see it on his face, but that really isn't important at this point in the season. This game had it's share of baseball magic. The Twins took the lead in the second, Detroit tied it up in the third, and then took the lead in the sixth. The Twins came roaring back to take the lead in the top half of the seventh, and then served up the tie in the bottom half. Then big Jim Thome came to the plate and stroked a single take back the lead. I'll never, ever, tire of watching Thome swing the lumber. Glen Perkins came on to be automatic, and instead loaded the bases without retiring anyone. Shortening was called in, and I couldn't watch. I sat at my couch staring at the rug waiting to hear the roar of the crowd that would affirm my worst fears, but that roar never happened. With the game knotted at 4 Leyland brought in his Iceman, the douchy closer who's been perfect in save opportunities this year, and he blew up the game. Morneau had the clutch hit driving in two runs, and Joe Nathan saved the day by only giving up one run. The Twins may have raised the white flag, but there are some positive things to watch for towards the end of the season. We may get to see K-slow pitch a real game, and, unless he's traded to AMR's new boyfriend team, we may get to see Jim Thome pass Sammy Sosa on the all time list.Even if the Twins aren't in the race for the division title I'm not willing to give up watching them play because the off-season is long and dark.
*that makes 8 blown saves for Crisco this season which = $875,000.00 per. The more he blows the cheaper they get.
Culture Club: Heads up to Hungry Joe, and anyone else who is hanging out around Chi-Town, the International Museum of Surgical Science is a great place to spend an afternoon (although, they are closed until labor day). Of the many reasons to like a museum dedicated to surgical science the most important reason is that they have a forward thinking approach to the connection between art and science with their Anatomy in the Gallery program. If you can't make it down to Chicago you can get your fix at the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices on display at the Science Museum of Minnesota.
