Game 60: Phillies 7, Twins 11

Padre covered for me - I'll pay it forward.

Big night offensively for both clubs as they combined for 31 hits. Blackburn gets the W and the Twins got 3 homeruns (Willingham, Span, Plouffe!). Revere, Doumit and Plouffe all went 3-5, Carroll 3-4 and Mauer 2-4 with a walk. Dozier was 0-5 but committed no errors.

JI JIM was 2-4 with 2 RBI.

Burton, Perk-n-play, and Capps all pitched clean innings after Dunce gave up 3 runs in the 6th (that mess was cleaned up by Burnett).

The Twins are now 7-3 in their last 10 and 6-1 at home since being swept by Detroit at the end of May.

Jim Mutrie managed teams in New York for nine years.  He has been called the founding father of baseball in New York City.

Catcher Bill Bergen spent eleven seasons in the majors.  He appeared in 947 games and had 3, 028 at-bats.  His lifetime stats are .170/.194/.201.  Everything you read about him says he was a tremendous defensive catcher, and one assumes he must have been.

There do not appear to be any players with connections to the Minnesota Twins who were born on this day.

Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears – Sugarfoot

Caught them last Spring opening for Sharon Jones.  Rather than pay Ticketmaster fees, Sheenie offered to go to the State Theater box office forty-five minutes before tickets went on sale.  The staff made a big ordeal about how they didn't have time to sort through the system to get people tickets where they wanted (because the State had assigned seating), so to please just take whatever tickets you get (and they all cost the same).  Sheenie was handed two tickets in the orchestra pit.  We ended up being about three feet from the bari sax.  Great stuff.
