Minor Details: Games of June 5

The Lookouts win a close one.  A rare bad game for Chih-Wei Hu.  No pitching for the Kernels.  The DSL Twins try to let Jorge do it.  We'll hope to get caught up this afternoon.

PAWTUCKET AT ROCHESTER

The game was suspended after two innings with the Red Wings leading 1-0.  It will be completed June 29.

CHATTANOOGA 6, TENNESSEE 5 IN TENNESSEE

Batting stars:  Mike Gonzales was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and three RBIs.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Byron Buxton was 3-for-5 with a run.

Pitching star:  Jake Reed pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Willson Contreras was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Billy McKinney was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

The game:  Polanco had an RBI triple and came around to score in a two-run first, but it was tied 2-2 after four.  Each team scored twice in the sixth to make it 4-4.  In the eighth, a sacrifice fly, an Adam Brett Walker II triple, and a Gonzales single made it 6-4 Lookouts.  The Smokies scored one in the ninth and had the tying run on second with one out.

Of note:  Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.  Walker II was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Brett Lee, making his AA debut, pitched five innings, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.  Miguel Sano did not play for the second straight game after leaving early on Wednesday.

BRADENTON 6, FORT MYERS 2 IN BRADENTON

Batting star:  Zach Granite was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Alex Muren struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Todd Van Steensel struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Harold Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk, scoring twice.  Reese McGuire was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jayson Aquino pitched six innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  The Miracle got one in the top of the first, but the Marauders came back with four in the bottom of the first and were in control the rest of the way.  Ramirez' three-run homer was the key at-bat of the inning.  The Marauders added single runs in the second and third to go up 6-1 and the Miracle did not get back into the game.

Of note:  Marcus Knecht was 0-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-2 with two walks.  Chih-Wei Hu had a rare bad game, pitched 3.2 innings and giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

SOUTH BEND 9, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN SOUTH BEND

Batting stars:  Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Brett Doe was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Jeffrey Baez was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  David  Bote was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once and driving in two.  Jesse Hodges was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

The game:  RBI singles by T. J. White and Doe tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Cubs responded with four in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game.  Bote had a two-run double in the inning.  The Cubs added two more in the fifth and the Kernels never got back into the game.

Of note:  Tanner English was 1-for-5 with a run.  Max Murphy was 0-for-5.  Keaton Steele pitched four innings, giving up six runs on nine hits and a walk with one strikeout.

DSL ROCKIES 11, DSL TWINS 5 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Jorge Acosta was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Jorge Parra was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jorge Munoz was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Joel Diaz was 4-for-4 with two home runs and a walk, scoring three times and driving in three.  Pedro Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice.  Anderson Jimenez was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.

The game:  A double, two walks, and another double led to a three-run Twins third that tied the score 3-3.  The Rockies opened the sixth with back-to-back homers by Diaz and Gonzalez and got two more in the inning to go up 7-3.  Acosta had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 7-5, but the Twins left the bases loaded.  The Rockies added four in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Jean Carlos Arias was 0-for-4.  Antonio Tovar was 0-for-4.  Jadison Jimenez struck out seven in five innings but gave up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and a walk.
