Game 109 Twins at Cleveland. 6pm

The last few years have seen the Twins free fall into the abyss after the All Star break. I would say it was one of the main reasons Ron Gardenhire lost his job. Can Paul Molitor steady the ship and avoid another 90 loss season?

Perhaps I am being too over dramatic. But getting bullied and bludgeoned by  the Blue Jays the past week has brought up memories of years past. Limping in the Dog Days of Summer and then the Twins being out of the sports picture once football season starts is not the way I wanted this season to go.

The Twins will face the Clevelanders who traded away Nick Swisher and Micheal Bourn to Atlanta. Mike "Do we have to keep watching him pitch?" Pelfey throws for our guys. Cody Anderson throws for the other guys.

Game 96 recap: Twins 10 Yankees 1

If you missed the game, I found the file footage of Yankees pitching

Miguel Sano's two run HR in the first was really something. (side not, how many times are we going to something like that over his career? 100? 150?) Taking borderline pitches to work the count then found a hanging cutter and crushed it over the CF wall and he didnt full extension of his arms!

Two runs is all Phil Hughes needed as he scattered 7 hits over 7 innings of work as the Twins moved to 52-44 on the season and gained a game on the Royals in the AL Central race. I dont like seeing Wild Card standings. The WC is a crap shoot. Winning divisions guarantees you 3 playoff games.

Kurt Suzuki flashed some of his 2014 form by knocking in two runs to pad the lead. Torii Hunter lined a HR in the 7th, then Trevor Plouffe and Brian Dozier blasted homers in the 8th to make it a laugher. Also of note Eddie Rosario hit 3 doubles.

I love when the Twins beat down an opponent, but there are two teams I really love to see them against: The White Sox and the Yankees. Yeah, this game was awesome. Lets do it again Saturday night!

Game 96. Yankees at Twins

Trevor Plouffe deserves all the awesome points today.

One media member asked Trevor Plouffe, "obviously it's always special to play the Yankees, how do you look at this series?" (1/2)

Plouffe: "You guys always say that. For us it's not that way. For us the Yankees are just another team that we're trying to beat." (2/2)

Game 90 recap: Twins 5 A’s 0

Brian Dozier led off the game with a home run and Trevor Plouffe added a grand slam as the Twins kicked off thier post All Star break schedule with a win over Oakland 5-0.

Its getting to the point where I am expecting Dozier to hit one out every at bat. How high can his HR total fly? Will he hit more that Justin Morneau's 34 or Josh Willingham's 35? Its possible!

Ervin Santana pitched pretty well going 7.2 allowing 5 hits and a walk. Brian Duensing pitched in the 8thas Santana seemed to run out of gas, then finished out the 9th with a clean appearance.

Going back to Plouffe's grand slam, the key to that at bat was the one taken by Miguel Sano. He battled and fought his way to get a walk. Just my observation, in the brief time Sano has been with the Twins, he doesnt look lost at the plate like Buxton did and has drawn a couple tough walks. I think he is a keeper.

The Twins are now 50 -40 on the year. Its just fantastic and the trudgery the last few years have been following this team. I hope win 60 comes in just 10 more games.
