Today, we've got a sub 4 (Aaron Sanchez, 4-4 3.98 ERA) and a sub 3 (Kyle Gibson, 4-3, 2.72 ERA) going at it. Pitcher's duel, right?

Trevor May takes the mound for the Twins today. I'm hoping he has a "progression to the mean" type start, so that his ERA can eke its way out of the abyss, and we can start talking about what to do with Nolasco (and Pelfrey, once he completes his transformation back into a pumpkin). Those seem like better places to trim rather than looking for excuses to not find out exactly what we have in May. If he's a reliever, that's fine, but it would be nice to actually, you know, find out for sure.
The Rays, meanwhile, are sending out Alex Colome, a pitcher who seems to be running low on chances to really catch on with the team.
I'm sort of expecting a bloodbath. Fearful prediction: Twins 8, Rays 2. May pitches like he ought to, and the top of the lineup comes through.

Nolasco returns! Lucky for him, he's facing off against the worst offense in the league, so... I'm expecting good things from him. We're adjusting our criteria for "good things", given that it's Nolasco, so I'm thinking he labors through 104 pitvhes in five and a third innings, gives up 3 runs and everyone agrees that it could have been a lot worse.
Noesi takes the hill for the White Sox. He gives up lots of home runs, but that's not exactly a tool in our bag, unless Arcia or vargas gets ahold of one, so... key in on the fact that he doesn't strike many out and that he has a tendency to walk folk? Man, he's not a very good pitcher, is he.
Go Twins!
The good news is that we don't have to watch our favorite team take on Felix Hernandez any more in this series.
Trevor May (1-1 4.76 ERA, 3.04 FIP)
vs.
James Paxton (0-1 8.40 ERA, 4.64 FIP)
I should really do xFIP, but I'm about to go run some errands, and I can't be arsed to do anything other than a quick bbref lookup. It looks like this Paxton fellow has been almost as good as Hughes at keeping the ball on the correct side of the outfield fence. I'd expect that to change.
On that note: the Twins as a team have 8 home runs. Nelson Cruz has 9.
I'm kicking it at an eight hour childbirth class today, so i might miss this one.
Phil Hughes takes the mound against Salazar. Let us hope tjat he can maintain this momentum we've got going these last couple of games.
Go Twins!
A wild game-already-in-progress appears.
What do?
House vs. May
Gamelog, GO!
Beautiful night for a game. Hughes is pitching, AMR'S favorite manager is doing the "receivers as pitchers" thing...
We're gonna see a win tonight, I can feel it.
M'AIDEZ!! (to oblige DW)
Well, he's here. I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonably low, but this is more about what it all represents.
The Twins post-2011 have sucked. Tonight represents the possibility that they might not suck forever. Even if May only ends up being the third or fourth best starter on the staff of the future, maybe we'll have the type of team that has a fairly decent starter in the third or fourth spot. We can hope, right?
In the mean time, he's only got to make a start against the best team in baseball. No pressure!
Here's your game log. I don't really know who's pitching.
Come and bask in the warm glow of your baseball team of choice.
