Deep Purple – Highway Star

I spent a few hours on Sunday watching Wrecks to Riches on the Velocity channel. On one episode they restored a '69 Plymouth Road Runner and dropped a 471 Hemi with dual Holley carbs into that sucker. Five-hundred and thirty maniacal horses. For some reason, it made me think of this song from Machine Head, one of the great early heavy metal albums and one of my all-time favorites. Recorded live in Denmark in 1972, right before the album dropped. If you'd like more Deep Purple, just click here.

2011 World Series, Game 4

Cardinals at Rangers, Cardinals lead 2-1.

Edwin Jackson vs. Derek Holland

That Albert Pujols is pretty good. He will look strange in pinstripes next year. I wonder who will switch positions, Pujols or Teixeira?

The Rangers are in a world of hurt, and yet a win today will change all that. Of course, they are one ninth-inning rally from trailing 3-0 in the series.

Tigres Tales

Aragua scored in five of the nine innings to defeat Caracas 6-1 in Caracas.

Alex Romero (Florida) and Joe Benson each had two doubles to lead the Tigres.  Benson was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Luis Hernandez singled and doubled, and Vinny Rottino had two hits.  Yohan Pino (Toronto) got the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, giving up just one hit.

No player for the Leones had more than one hit.  The loss went to Victor Larez (Detroit), who surrendered four runs on six hits and a walk in 3.1 innings.

Around the league, Rene Tosoni was 1-for-5 and Jairo Perez was 0-for-4 with a walk as Lara fell to Magallanes 5-4 in 11 innings.  Pedro Guerra struck out two in two perfect innings of relief for Magallanes, and Deolis Guerra worked a perfect eleventh to get the win.  Anzoategui edged Zulia 4-3, and La Guaira beat Margarita 3-1.

Aragua hosts Magallanes this evening.

Solar Sox Summary

Mesa scored four runs in the first two innings and was never threatened as the Solar Sox defeated Salt River 9-2 in Salt River.  The win gave Mesa four consecutive victories.

Junior Lake (Cubs) led the way with three singles and a double, driving in three.  Robbie Grossman (Pittsburgh) had two hits and scored three times, and Tyler Saladino (White Sox) had two hits and drove in three.  Terry Doyle (White Sox) worked four shutout innings to get the win, striking out four while giving up one hit and two walks.  The only Twin to play was Bruce Pugh, who pitched a perfect eighth inning.

The Rafters were led by Gorman Erickson (Dodgers), who singled and doubled.  The loss went to Stephen Fife (Dodgers), who allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks in two innings.

Mesa is off today.  The Solar Sox host Surprise Monday afternoon.

It is to be hoped that Kyle Gibson’s biography will be added eventually.
