These guys, and their frontman, are absolutely blowing up right now. I have tickets to see them at tips next week, but the market is so hot I'm thinking about selling them off.
*yes, this isn't life, but I love the blues brothers rif.
Always liked this song. Good performance. Paul Simon is a mega-dork and old Art is rocking a porn `stache and staring deep into your soul. What's not to like about this cut?

Happy Canada Day, you guys!

As Spooky prepares his arrival, I will take my leave of you, Minnesota. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
You get the point.

Because obligatory. See y'all on the other side of the big water.
There's no way I could do this week without any Ani. This is the first song off her first album and also the first album of hers I ever heard. A girl at my high school loaned it to me, and it just about blew my mind. This also marks the moment I when I began moving away from top-40 radio.

I know Bootsy said a while back he never really got into Ani Difranco. Fair enough. As a mainstream-radio-listening wannabe feminist at a suburban high school full of jocks, this was just the right music for me at the right time.
If Hammerhead is my favorite music act to ever come from Fargo, I suppose Brenda Weiler is my second. I had the hugest of crushes on her in high school. I can't remember who told me to listen to her, but she was way outside of what I normally listened to. I just loved her voice, and for whatever reason was thinking about her tonight. I guess she runs a yoga studio downtown now? Anyway, here's a recent recording of her playing the eponymous song from her first record.

I honestly cannot push a Women in Rock week without Ani. Seriously, homegirl kills the guitar, and is a ridiculously good songwriter to boot. Going further back in the catalog here, but it's all good.

To be sure, I'm not sure why she skipped the heart of the bridge, but oh well.
