James Dunn was the owner of the Cleveland Indians from 1916-1922.

Luis Garcia is a member of both the Venezuelan Hall of Fame and the Caribbean Hall of Fame.

Infielder Ellis Clary was a scout for the Twins for over two decades.

Actor Scott Patterson, best known for his role on The Gilmore Girls, was a minor league pitcher for seven seasons, pitching 373 AAA innings but not reaching the majors. He was in the Yankees and Braves systems.

Quinn Mack is Shane Mack’s brother and got 21 at-bats with Seattle in 1994.

Brad "the Animal" Lesley was drafted by the Twins in seventh round in the 1977 January draft, but did not sign.

Toby Gardenhire, of course, is the son of the current Twins’ manager.  He was a player in the Twins’ minor league system, reaching AAA, and is currently the baseball coach of the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

We also want to wish a very happy birthday to Rhubarb_Runner.

Additionally, it seems appropriate on this day to mention former minor league players Marty Boryczewski and Brent Woodall, both of whom were killed in the terrorist attacks of 2001.

2013 Game 142 Recap: Twins 6, Disgruntled Retired Catcher 3

Does anybody still do these? I guess it doesn't matter.

In another fall(nearly) makeup of a spring game, the Twins clashed with another losing team from a major market. Unlike the Mets though, the Twins won.

Miracles were performed with a couple hundred people in attendance. The Twins scored runs with nobody out and the bases loaded. The Twins got crucial hits with runners in scoring position. The bullpen didn't give up any runs.

Not playing the Blue Jays was the key to the game.

2013 Game 142: Angels at Twins

So the Red Wings fall in the playoffs and we get to see The Replacements tonight as the Twins call up seven players from Rochester for a September cup of coffee. I'd suggest getting that coffee to go, boys. Something about the barely replacement-level quality of this team and these call-ups is leaving me feeling so...unsatisfied.

Pedro Hernandez (3-1, 5.19 ERA) vs. Jered Weaver (9-8, 3.33 ERA) in a makeup game from April. Aside from the chance of getting shut out, I don't much like our chances tonight. Play ball (anyway)!

WGOM Fitness: September 9, 2013, You! Shall Not! Pass!

Alright, we really needed a new fitness post.  I take it I am not alone in letting things slide lately.  The heat and stress (Work!  No daycare!  Wife starting classes again!)  of the past month have completely derailed my workouts.  My willpower on diet has been nearly non-existent too.  I've been avoiding scales.

But I stepped on last Friday.  Moment of truth, and all that.  Continue reading WGOM Fitness: September 9, 2013, You! Shall Not! Pass!
