Dobnak continues his improbable year. I don't know if the Twins juggled his position in the rotation to have him start around his wedding this Saturday, but that's how it is. Regular rest dictates his next start would be Monday so he's ready for a Game 1 (unlikely) start.
Odorizzi gets to try again at pitching in a game. He's done well against the White Sox this year, his only loss coming in a game where the other starter did pretty well.
Nova has also done well against the Twins this year. He has a 5.06 ERA for the season and a 3.12 versus the Twins.
The Twins are projected for 99.9 wins now and could be the underdog in every series.
A good postseason test tonight for the Twins. Strasburg is really good. Pérez is a pitcher. Berríos delivered a very strong start yesterday and it's Pérez's turn to get five acceptable innings before handing it to the *checks notes* 12-man bullpen. Batters, this isn't Berríos, please don't forgot about the dongers.
The Twins are 9-1 over their last ten games. They're 19-11 against the AL East (thanks Baltimore) and now 2-2 against the Red Sox.
Berríos had an extra day off after an improved, but still okay, start. He lost his start against Boston in June, in the midst of regular bullpen implosions. That time was because the Twins forgot how to score for the series.
Let's guarantee at least a season split with another AL East team. Sure, they aren't going to make the postseason, but those are the teams you need to beat.
Another Wednesday Odorizzi start. This time he gets to face Ross Detwiler instead of Giolito. Detwiler has 5.4 rWAR less than Giolito but he did beat the Twins in his only start against them. His season went rapidly downhill from there, including two more appearances against the Twins in July. He's been home run prone, not in the 2019 sense, but actually. He gave up one home run in each appearance so here's to at least 256 home runs after tonight.
The Twins now have four-way tie at 244 home runs. Giolito made his contribution in July by giving up four home runs, including three to Cruz. If the Twins get two more home runs, they enter into the top ten all time. It's time for Giolito to help the Twins move up the rankings again.
