Frank Funk served as a pitching coach for five major league teams (not all at the same time).
Randy O’Neal was drafted by Minnesota in 1979, but did not sign.
We would also like to wish a happy birthday to cheaptoy's trinket.
Provuroni and the Dazzleman sign new contracts to stick around for awhile. As has been mentioned by several around here, this is a pairing I've really grown to appreciate,
Pep Young (1907)
Joe Schultz (1918)
Billy Cox (1919)
Orval Grove (1919)
Dave Nicholson (1939)
Doug DeCinces (1950) Bill Latham (1960) Jeff Kellogg (1961) Henry Blanco (1971) Steve Lomasney (1977) Aaron Rowand (1977)
Roy Oswalt (1977) Anthony Recker (1983) Mark Rzepczynski (1985)
Bill Nicholson is the one nicknamed "Swish", but Dave deserved the nickname more. In the one season in which he played more than a hundred games (126 in 1963), he struck out 175 times. He did hit 22 homers. In 1964 he had 294 at-bats and struck out 126 times while hitting 13 homers. Come to think of it, that sounds like what Adam Brett Walker II's major league career might have been if he'd gotten a chance. It's also about what Miguel Sano's 2018 season has been.
Jeff Kellogg has been a major league umpire since 1993.
If it's Tuesday must be another series against the soon to be 2018 Central Division Champion Cleveland Baseball Club, Inc. With the Twins' Tragic Number at 18, it's now all about playing the string out for the home town squad; maybe checking in on some prospects and ideas for 2019.
Gibby on the mound for the Twins. He's been decent this year, although his last start, not so much. Same could be said for Cleveland's Carlos Carrasco. Game time at 6:10p.
BrianS listed:
"Elizabeth Moon's The Speed of Dark lists at 370, but that's a paperback and it reads pretty fast"
I'm going to throw in:
Peter Geye's Wintering (320 pages)
So let's go with those. If you plan to participate in some fashion (or not, why police that right?) vote in the comments* for your top three in ranked order.
I'll tabulate the results on Thursday. Hopefully, we won't have a tie, but if we do I'll just use random.org to choose from those.
Byron Buxton stays hot. Andy Wilkins hits a big home run. Alex Kirilloff and Brusdar Graterol continue to play well. Randy Dobnak remains on a roll. The E-Twins prepare for the playoffs.
