Today's video takes a decidedly different direction. Arch Enemy is a long standing, pioneering death metal band. In 2000, they brought in Angela Gossow to do vocals and it worked, with the band becoming as popular as ever over the past 14 years.

There was lot of crap that happened in 2014 related to domestic violence/harassment of women. When I sent in my letter for the end of the year Friday Music Day, I realized I had purchased a lot of music from female-fronted bands. Heavy metal has always been, and will probably always be, heavily skewing towards males, but it is starting to get much more diverse, gender-wise, these days. So, with all of the crap that happened last year, I thought I'd spend a week celebrating what that type of diversity can bring to music like this.
Up first is Nightwish, who basically made symphonic metal with a classically trained vocalist a thing.

It would be great if the Twins could at least notch four more victories in this last week to hit 70-wins. The 7 at least looks a little better than the 6. It would be really great if the Twins could shore up this pitching staff for next season. The box scores from an offensive standpoint seem fun and encouraging.
I was sitting around relaxing on the couch last night after another long deck day and came a across a tweet from a certain brunch enthusiast about Vance Worley's success in Pittsburgh. The discussion below was pretty terrible, basically saying Rick Anderson should be fired because of this (and Liriano). In other words, between that and the way Joe Mauer gets slagged by the loudest people online makes me think this losing team is deserved.
May (1-4, 9.38 ERA) vs. Bauer (5-7, 4.10 ERA)
Trevor May has not pitched very well since coming up. Let's hope this isn't another game reminiscent of the header image, because the Twins annual September give-up period (4th anniversary!) is underway and pretty depressing in a baseball sense. If it weren't for the Kennys Vargases, Danny Santanas (what happened to him, is he injured or something? Never did see any news on why he was pulled the other day), and Arcias (and, of course, Mauers) of the world, it would be dire. I'm trying to remain optimistic about the future because the future offense does sound like a lot of fun. It would just be really nice to see the pitching come along with that.
Anyway, I'm planning on getting started with deck framing this weekend. Any citizens in the area are more than welcome to come by and help. I'm snake-method smoking ribs on Sunday.
Nolasco (5-9, 5.96 ERA) vs. Duffy (8-11, 2.53 ERA)
The Twins head to KC to face the King Royals, starting off the series in what has been the worst possible way this year: with Nolasco pitching. Maybe this is when he turns a corner, gets his game on track?
The deck project is going about as well as expected, I say sarcastically. Arguments abound, though I've manage to convince my wife that a pergola would look completely awful in my hands. (there was much yelling.) I've given in on deck size, expanding my hope of 12'x12' to at least 14', though the Menards design tool tells me it will cost $1,001,400 or so.
Also, its been hot down here lately (and absurdly humid), so maybe seeing the fountains at Kaufman will help.
Bauer (4-7, 4.18 ERA) vs. Gibson (11-9, 3.96 ERA)
Now that the Twins have finished up helping the Royals stay ahead of the Tigers, they're hanging around Target Field to see if they can't get the Clevelands into the wild card race. I really haven't been paying a lot of attention, because last place, but at least it sounds like Mauer is back to being Mauer and Gibson has been throwing pretty good as of late.

Anyway, Phil Hughes takes on one of the most atrocious offenses in baseball history, which is good because Jesse Hahn takes on the Twin's post-16-run offense, which, without looking it up, guarantees them getting shut out.
Since the last time I brought up my yard was pretty interesting, I thought I'd mention the crabapple tree. This year it was taken over by some vine. Any idea what it might bed and should I do so etching about it?

Will we get good Gibson or bad Gibson tonight? No idea, but I haven't really paid much attention lately with all the travel and such going on in my life. I'm going to guess it'll be bad Gibson so that this start will either meet my expectations or exceed. Gotta stay positive.
Hughes (7-2, 3.17 ERA) vs. Lester (7-7, 3.33 ERA)
Its not a great time to lose a few with the Royals juggernaut cruising along like it has been lately. Man, is that weird to type. Does anyone know where this has come from and can the Twins have some of it?
The Twins have the right guy going on the mound today in the "don't make it a losing streak" category. I can't remember a free agent pitcher the Twins have signed that has consistently made me happy like the Hughes signing has. Moral victories, ammiright?
Correia (2-7, 6.11 ERA) vs. Happ (5-2, 4.12 ERA)
Time to get a winning streak starter, Mr. Correia. Somehow. That craptacular AL Central title isn't going to wait around all season. At least, I think it won't even though the Tigers seem to be doing their best to leave it on the platter.
My time in Manchester is finished and we've moved to an area that looks, basically, like every American mall area ever. Its pretty awful. There's still some real ale to be found, but its all in what seem to compare to TGI Fridays or the like. Fortunately, I won't have time to do anything, anyway, since we're here to conduct a trial this week. I did manage to introduce the Scottish sales guy that I'm with to Bengali Tiger last night, though and the same bar had this on cask as well.
