2019 Game 6: Twins @ Phillies

In a possible WS preview, the team with the 2nd best record in the AL takes on the team with the 2nd best record in the NL. It's like playoff baseball in early April!

Jake Oddorrizzi (I wasn't sure which consonant needed to be doubled, so I doubled them all) is planning to help himself with the bat tonight, or so I surmised from a headline I saw. Maybe he'll hit a doubble? Nick Pivetta, who, judging by his ERA after one game, is hittable, goes for Philadelphia.

Rain in the forecast according to the Cup of Coffee. That's all the weather report I need to say that my first game log is gonna be rained out. But the warm up was good, right?

They Might Be Giants – Whistling In The Dark

Admittedly, this video is... dated. As, I suppose, is the song. But I sing it to/with my kids all the time. Usually when turning out a light. Though, strangely, rarely when turning out a light at bedtime. Huh.

That said, what would Philosopher week be without a spin from TMBG?

Pavel Tschesnokov – Salvation is Created (performed by the National Lutheran Choir)

This is another of my absolute favorite songs of all time, and a perfect one for putting the kids into a restful, relaxed state. It does wonders on that front for me too.

I was first introduced to this song in band class, and I prefer straight instrumental versions, but since I often sing the song to the kids (as best I can... no justice is done there), I thought I'd drop a sung version here. Enjoy!

Barenaked Ladies – When You Dream

One of my kids' favorites, and a really on-point bedtime song, is BNL's "When You Dream". This video ain't exactly quality, but it was about the best I could do for a live performance. The album version of this song is definitely worth a listen, and the lyrics are pretty fun too.

Victor Borge – Clair de Lune

Obviously not a song I sing to my kids, but one I'll often play as they're drifting off to sleep. It has become one of my favorite pieces, and I think this performance nails it (minus the coughing audience members). Right about 2 minutes in, when it almost seems like the song could be winding up, but then it shifts into an other-world quality... perfectly dream-like. I haven't stopped being wowed by that, despite hearing the song probably a hundred times.

Rufus Wainwright + A Lot Of People – Hallelujah

Welcome to another iteration of Philosofer week on our video series. This time around I decided to spin some tracks that we regularly sing or play for our children, especially focused on trying to get them to bed. I hope you enjoy!

We'll start off with one of the most over-played songs, but one that I still love all the same. I thought this version offered something a little new, plus Rufus Wainwright's iteration is my favorite anyway, so bonus!
