So let's see if this works... this video had entirely too much talking and annoying DJs before and after the song, but I can't find a better version. Trying to start it in the right place...

The Revivalists – “To Love Somebody”
The Revivalists are another band that I've been enjoying quite a bit, and their more country take on this Bee Gees song (the best Bee Gees song?) hits that thing where you want a cover song to add something new, and not just duplicate what went before. Anyway, I dig this.
Houndmouth – Runaround Sue
Welcome to Philosofer week. I've got a half-baked idea to try to find videos of more modern artists covering less modern songs. I was inspired partially by Pepper's "Jump In The Line" video. Let's see what happens.
The first entry is Houndmouth, which is a band I've come to appreciate quite a bit. This cover of Dion's "Runaround Sue" starts a little slow, but really gets fun well before the end. Enjoy!
FMD 10-13-17: Play One Song
I used to play trumpet. I was not particularly great. I have very little music-playing ability (short fingers make things hard). But I have long wanted to be able to play the piano part of "Werewolves Of London" so recently I have begun teaching myself. It's fairly easy but I'm still struggling plenty. That said, it's been really cool to do, and I'm having fun.
The question I have for y'all is, if you were to sit down at a piano (or pick up a guitar, etc.) what song would you love to be able to play? Different choices for different instruments, etc.
October 9, 2017: I Could Daycare Less
No daycare today. No daycare this coming Friday. Possibly none tomorrow either. This throws everything off.
FMD 10-6-17: Let’s Get It On
Today's topic: sexy songs. I know we tend to keep polite company 'round these parts, so let's not get all tawdry or anything, but it's a legitimate topic, and I think especially so when it comes to music.
I think one of the more interesting elements of this question is how sexiness can transcend genres. There are country songs I think of as sexy (Chris Young's "Gettin' You Home), indie songs I think of as sexy ("Grey or Blue" by Jaymay), rock ("You Shook Me All Night Long"), etc. They can be small and intimate (Norah Jones' "Turn Me On") or loud and hot. I'll leave you with one of the later, while you mull the question: what songs are sexy to you?

FMD 9-29-17: Music Post Goes Here
Busy morning. No time to chat. Give me some of your best stress release music.
September 26, 2017: The End.
Could be today is the end of meaningful September games for the Twins. If you told me at the start of the season, or probably even in June, that meaningful games would last this long, I would have happily taken it.
FMD 9-15-17: False, Etto
So I'm listening to some Mika the other day, and the I turn off that and turn on the radio and Leo Sayer's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" comes on, and I'm thinking "this is a lot of falsetto all at once", but I was cool with it. So for today, nominate your favorite falsetto songs.
FMD 9-8-17: When Do You Listen
Aquinas turns 8 on Sunday, and I realized that I have exceedingly little music from the past 8 years in my collection - much less than the 8 years before that. Before I had kids, I had time for music. I would seek out new stuff, try different things, discover, etc. I just have so little of that now. It's a big part of why my tastes haven't continued to grow.
Now, maybe once a week, I just plug in my headphones and take a whirl around youtube for a night, clicking on whatever mostly familiar starting point I pick, and going from there. I jump around a lot, but not a ton of new things pop up. (A side note: it seems like all the algorithms (and this is true for Pandora, et. al., too) keep redirecting me to the things I know, not the things I don't know.) It's not really a time for checking out new stuff, because it's my rare chance to ground myself. It's a time of re-centering and recharging, not discovering.
So I don't know when to find time for more new stuff. After the kids leave home, I suppose. Maybe I'll be able to count on them to introduce me to music someday. I put a lot of effort into giving them broad exposure to the music I know, so maybe their tastes will be diverse too, and someday that'll pay off.
Anyway, what are your listening habits? When do you listen? Do you mix in old and new together? Do you find specific time for discovery of the new?
