B-r.com says "Sam Field played only 12 games in the majors, but managed to do so with three teams in two leagues. He played mostly catcher.  His career may have been doomed by his .712 fielding percentage."  It may also have been doomed by his .146 batting average.

Pete Hill is considered one of the greatest outfielders of the Negro Leagues.  Incomplete statistics list his average as .326.

Hall of Famer Joe Cronin, of course, played for the Washington franchise from 1928-1934, managing the team in the latter two years. He married Clark Griffith’s niece, which did not keep Griffith from trading him to Boston after the 1934 season.

If there was a Hall of Fame for public address announcers, Bob Sheppard would be the first one in.

Jose Valentin is the brother of ex-Twin Javier Valentin.

First baseman/outfielder Derrick White was drafted by Minnesota in the 23rd round in 1989, but did not sign. He played in the major leagues for Montreal, Detroit, the Cubs, and Colorado, playing in three seasons and totaling 116 at-bats.

We would also like to wish a very happy birthday to Dr. Chop.

its finally here. NLCS Game 1

LA Dodgers at St Louis Cardinals

Grienke -vs- Kelly

7:30 TBS

with the Pirates and A's bounced, most people's rooting interest have fallen by the wayside. Now we are in 'let cheer for compelling baseball' mode. I think I can talk myself into cheering for the Dodgers because of Puig!!! and Clayton Kershaw is a really good pitcher, but the whole 'spending a quarter billion dollars on payroll' thing is a huge turnoff.

Friday Music Day: Oct 11, 2013

I mentioned Emot last January, and I'm really digging this EP that the song was from.

Particularly the song "Lifting Off" (#2).
It's about drugs. But just not drugs, there's some nostalgia and regret in there. Country-tinged, psychedelic, moody. Is this what the Grateful Dead sound like to their fans? Except I don't wanna see gummi bears, I wanna watch an epic space anime (with the depth of Voices of a Distant Star) with this as the soundtrack.

They'll have a new album soon, I'm told. I think that the second album is better than the first, and the EP better than the second album, so I'm excited to hear what they come up with.
