FMD: New Music

I didn't see anything queued up for today, so I thought I'd put up my first ever FMD post. Exciting stuff!

I've been using Google Play on a free trial (I use the free version of it to store my songs since you get up to 20 some thousand songs for free and I'll never have that much) for the past two weeks. While I've been pretty impressed with their metal selection. I've been able to find just about whatever I've been looking for (except for Doomsword, which is disappointing). That said, I won't be continuing with a paid subscription when my two months is up. Doing random lists from "genre radio" stations is completely terrible for me. It might work great for others with different tastes, but the "metal" it randomizes is... not good. I pretty much have to know exactly what I want to listen to, then search for it and make my own playlists. I'm quite content buying albums and listening to my own personal collection.

That all said, I have been able to give a listen to some bands that I hadn't before. My favorite that I've discovered so far is Slough Feg. I could see them as having some appeal to some citizens here. They have a dirty, hard-rock sort of groove going while still falling on the heavier side. The vocals are clean, by the way, in case that is a general hang-up for anyone.

La Luz – Brainwash

It's Friday, so let's let our hair down. (Literally for me, maybe metaphorically for most of you.)

I rely heavily on the WGOM to introduce me to new and interesting music, and this strategy definitely serves me well these days. Every once in a while I try to seek out music from other sources. I came across Shana Cleveland & The Sandcastles at NPR's First Listen this week and was intrigued. However, they have no recent videos on YouTube. Fortunately, Cleveland is also guitarist in singer in La Luz. So here you go!

Truck Time with Twayn…with Mags! Fuel Filter Edition

Following hot on the heels of the "wildly" "popular" sway bar replacement post, here's my much quicker, much less sweary fuel filter replacement.

My car had been starting pretty rough. My BiL suggested that a clogged fuel filter could be impeding the fuel pump from creating the initial flow of gasoline from the tank to the engine until a sufficient siphon could be created to help the pump by pulling the fuel into the engine. Seeing that a replacement filter was $8, I figured it was worth a shot. Continue reading Truck Time with Twayn…with Mags! Fuel Filter Edition

Baaba Maal – Ca et La

Following up on yesterday, I did also listen to West African music while in Senegal. I also took a dance class with live drumming, which was fantastic.

Youssou N'Dour and Baaba Maal were the Senegalese musicians I probably heard the most while I was there, so here's something from Maal. This one starts off pretty quiet, but give it until about the 2:30 mark when it picks up.
