2012 Game 135: Land of Sky-Blue Water at City of Native Garlic
Television - FSN
First Pitch - 6:10pm CDT
Happy Labor Day, citizens. I hope you've been enjoying your day of leisure; it was hard earned by those who came before us. I hope you're having a cold beer with friends or spending some quality time with family or both. Maybe taking in a ball game. And somewhere along the way, if you haven't done so already, perhaps pausing for just a moment to think about the rivers of sweat and the the mountains of toil and the generational expanses of endeavor and industry as wide as the prairies that it took to build this nation. And maybe, if you are so inclined, hoping for better days to come for everyone looking to earn an honest day's pay for an honest day's work but finding the doors of opportunity thrown shut in their faces.
Today the Twins start a three-game set against the team we love to hate. Sam Deduno is on the mound for the good guys, Hector Santiago takes the hill for the White Sox. The Sox are battling the Detroit Tigers for the AL Central title. The Twins are struggling to climb out of the division cellar. What the heck, there's just a month left of Twins baseball this year. We might as well stock up on what's left. Winter comes early in these parts and hangs on like a fat and stubborn tick. Best to enjoy every day of baseball summer has left to offer, there will be precious little autumn ball for the Twins this year.
I find myself feeling a bit poetic for some reason, but in the spirit of the holiday I'm just going to take it easy and toast the work of others who have better saluted in verse the homes of today's natively eponymous contestants:

2012 Game 134: Royals at Twins
The Twins come into this one now boasting a winning record in the all-powerful AL Central. They won two yesterday - can they do me the courtesy of one win today?
Esmerling Vasquez gets the start - the first in his career - for the hometown nine. Luis Mendoza, also known as "Meh," goes for the Royals in a game that nobody outside of this site cares about.
The Royals were 17-11 in August. Did you know? I did! Well, as of a few moments ago. Well, good for them. Every time I get down about how bad the Twins are, I think of franchises with prolonged streaks of futility that the 1993-2000 Twins only wish they could match.
doubleheader recap: good times
Well, hey. The twins won two! First doubleheader sweep since 1972*. They may be a truly wretched baseball team, but little bright spotslike this make it worth it for me. Last place is not guaranteed. No fate but what we make. Here's hoping that this is an omen for September.
*sean may have something to say about this.
Game 133: …and Maybe Try to Win One – Twins @ Royals
Liaaaam Hendriks vs. Luke Hochevaaaar
Liam was a tough luck loser last time. I predict a pitcher's duel.
Game 132: Let’s Play Two – Twins @ Royals
Cole "Home Run" De Vries against Will "Wait, Who?" Smith.
I predict a riot. Of runs.
That doesn't make sense, but what I'm saying is... there will be runs. Scored. By baseball teams.
Go Twins!
Game 132: Twins in KC 7:10pm..check that 3:10PM Saturday
*edit* this game has been postponed until Saturday at 3:10pm.
the remnants of Hurricane Isaac are making its way up the central US, giving places like Arkansas, Missourri, Kansas, and Illinois some much needed rain. The forecast for KC tonight calls for rain, so this game might now get underway.
The Twins have been brutal this month, posting a 9-19 record with 1 game to go. This month is an improvement over last year where the Twins went 7-21. And the Twins have gained 4 games on Cleveland as they have only 5 wins in August.
Cole DeVries is scheduled to start for the local 9. DeVries has this Brad Radke thing going this year, giving up 16 home runs, and allowing 17 walks. Something to watch at the end of the year: will he give up more homeruns than walks batters.
The Royals will trot out a dude named Will Smith, who looks like a Twinsesque pitcher with a low walk rate, low k rate, and a high ERA.
2012 Game 131: Mariners at Twins
I didn't see a game log up, so here you go. Somebody is pitching for the Mariners, and somebody is pitching for the Twins. Probably a different somebody. GO TWINS!
2012 Game 130: Mariners at Twins
Deduno v. Vargas
2014 ALL STAR GAME!
GO TWINS!
Game what? The T___s played today?
I stopped listening to tonight's game loss after Diamond gave up the three run bomb so I could listen to Swans and finish my studies for the evening. I just got home, and my friend shared this link with me.
For those of you who don't want to just click a link sight unseen, this is Ken Rosenthal, obviously in the midst of a slow day, wondering if perhaps now that they freed up some salary the Red Sox might try to trade for Joe Mauer.
Instead of recounting the Twins' 16th loss in their last 19 games, let's laugh at what a moron Rosenthal is.
